I miss kites/ kiting

dylanj423 - 5-10-2013 at 12:31 PM

i think its coming up on the 6th anniversary of my first infatuation with kiting, and i got to thinking...

about 4.5 years ago i endeavored to get a college education (them kites be 'spensive) and i knew that i would be kiting less, even though i was in a better place geographically.

i moved from austin to houston to go to the university of houston. i have been kiting a few times a year (sadly prob only a few times a year) the last couple of years. now that i am studying the grit of what i want to do, i have even less time to dilly dally.

anyway... i just wanted to say that i miss kiting, but it is all starting to pay off. i have had numerous interviews for internships and i have the two that i REALLY want coming up.

its been hard work, and it has involved a major sacrifice in my kiting frequency (and many other things). but it was for the love of kiting that i started this adventure (college), and some day i will be able to truly reap the benefits that lured me to educate myself in the first place.

someday ill make it to nabx, and many of the other regional kiting events. ill be able to take vacations to wherever and kite some amazing places.

i still drop in and browse every once in a while. sometimes i even tease myself with the classifieds. but school is always calling- always pressing. its going to get worse before it gets better. but its going to get WAY better :)

i miss you guys and every time the wind picks up i think of y'all... maybe just maybe the wind will pick up when i can take some time to enjoy it...

Kudos to you for your sacrifice... On a smaller scale I can relate.... I'm working on a Masters Degree right now and have had to cut back my kiting as well esp in the last few months, my course load has been heavier and I've not ridden in the buggy but once in the last few months.

Congrats to you for your hard worS-P-A-M-L-I-N-K-s pay off.

Good to see you put the brain to work and get a piece of paper that shows you is smart. It is easier when you are young. Hope you dont have to get old and grey before you get back into kiting. Even old, grey, and having money, its still hard to make the events. Because I'm old and grey.:D

I kited through College...............I mean wind is free, Top Ramen is cheap, and beer is the budget killer.

Chasing braless Hot Chicks running down the dorm room halls with a electric R/C car didn't suck too much either.

but, No, I don't miss Calculus nor Prof's who are egotistical #@%$#!s putting themselves high up on their own mantle.

Though, a couple of milk crates or cinder-blocks, plus a couple of boards do constitute a resemblance of furniture..........

but that piece of B.S or B.A paper will pay well into the future for you........so enjoy that Top Ramen now, for the steak later in life.

Perfect Chick Pickup line, "what's your major?"

P.S., WIND IS FREE.

GET THAT EDUCATION! Kiting can wait!

I've given 8+ years to Uncle Sam in defense of this nation. With the present state of our nation I almost want to ask myself now what the hell were you thinking wasting your life doing that? That time has however helped me secure a VA loan to help purchase the home I'm now paying for/living in & trying to support my little family. I got to buggy last at Red Lake solely by the grace of a loner buggy and the kindness of other buggiers. Trust me Kiting won't go away while you get an education. I wish I had not waited as long as I did to seek out any higher education. Now it's too late. My VA loan for school is long gone & I'm stuck with a crappy job offshore in the GOM that no one cares about even though I'm out trying to keep people from blowing up oil & gas production platforms and working safely.

Get that degree! It's worth every bit of sacrifice you can make!
