Las Vegas Tues Wed Oct 8/9

Hi
I 'm visiting Vegas for a couple of days for work. Can anyone recomend to a beginner some locations for kite landboarding? I see there is Silver Bowl Sports complex and Dessert Breeze park. And temporary closed Ivanpah? Any other suggestions?

I'll be bringing an MBS board, a 8m FB, knee and elbow pads and just looking for some easy cruising, winds permitting.

There is Eldorado Dry Lake that is just south of Boulder City on Hwy 95 if you want hard and smooth. The Silver Bowl allowed us to have a great time buggying on Friday night. Grass isn't the best spot for landboarding but if you have a little experience and plenty of kite for the wind, you could get some riding in. Ivanpah is closed right now and it doesn't look promising to be open by the time you're here.

Bob, Thanks for the quick reply!
How long was the grass at Silver Bowl? I'll give it a go Tuesday. Then perhaps Eldorado Dry Lake Wednesday. Thanks for that suggestion.

the grass is short and dormant. I was flying a 5m HQ Toxic and was able to go upwind handily when the wind picked up. More kite might've been too much, and the wind can be swirly depending on the direction. 16-25 mph from the SW is forecast on Tuesday. That's your day. Glad to help!

Bob, Yes thanks for your help! that grass sounds just fine! Softer for the occasional spill! For a dry lake bed, I probably need a bit more armour than I have at the mo. Perhaps next time I'll figure the logistics of getting a buggy out.

In normal times I might be able to fly with you and loan you a buggy, but family matters have me swamped this week. Keep us posted of future visits and let us know how you get along or if you have more questions.

Hi Bob,
just rented a car, so off to Silver Bowl... is that the New Silver Bowl Park, west of the stadium, or the bigger Silver Bowl Park to the east of the stadium?
Too bad theres no wind yet... may go have a look at Eldorado Dry lake, too.
I got an MBS board with me and a new to me Durtsurfer... which may be better for the lake.
The forecast gusts later on and tomorrow look intimidating:o

New Silver Bowl west of the football stadium. It has the large soccer ball oddly on a golf tee.

For anyone else visiting Vegas planning to go kiting at the New Silver Bowl Park, its a flat grass field with dry 3" long grass that easy to roll on using a standard mountain board. If you fall, its fairly soft and dry and you can slide on it easily. A Big bonus is mercury vapour light turn on before dark for continous kite flying into the evening!
It isnt a perfectly open space, as theres Garbage bins, the big mercury lamposts, some trees, and soccer goal post scattered through out.
I took the bus.
From near the main strip, takr the 202 (Flamingo) or 201 Tricana) bus east bound to Boulder Hwy. than tansfer south bound on the BHX bus to Russel road. Walk 1.5 blocks east. The Park is on your right.
There are toilet facilites. Several dog walkers with dogs on leash, but nonetheless still had to avoid a few...err..dog droppings not picked up by their owners.
New feeling and clean maintained park.
A 24hr bus pass is $5.
