Bigfoots tires

BEC - 15-10-2013 at 02:54 PM

Ok so I finally listened to Beamer Bob...took the bigfoot off the fork...filled it with air and put it in the tub...well the air was coming out of the valve stem like a bubbler in a fish tank so....my question....does the tire have to come off the rim to put a new one on from the inside.... or can I just deflate tire and put a new one on?

PL rim with bigfoot tire...

Thanks and hope to see everyone soon in WW

I would think you can press the tire away from the rim enough to work on the stem. You will have to reseat the tire, but it should be doable.

Are you sure the valve is defective and not just loose..? That little stem can become loose and the air will seep out.

Yes, as Cheezy says. The center valve actually un-screws and if it is loose, it will leak. If your bubbles are coming from the inside of the valve stem then this is probably your problem. You just need to turn/tighten it back down tight. You can pick up valve stems and a valve stem tool at most auto parts places. You can also pick up the little tool that will screw the center in and out. On some valve stem caps, the outside end of the cap has two notches in it, this actually is the tool to unscrew or tighten the valve center in the stem. If you are lucky enough to have one of these caps, just turn it over and see if it is loose.

If the bubbles are coming from around the base or rubber part of the stem then it is defective and needs to be replaced.
