Ivanpah open and no permit required?

dman - 23-10-2013 at 04:22 AM

Hey guys and gals, did you get Elaine's email stating that we no longer were going to be issued individual use permits?

So are we good to go? I need some wind time to blow the frustrations out accumulating from my pending divorce. Anyone want to hit the lakebed this Friday to Saturday?

Guess I should have checked the wind forecast before I got all excited.:(

From email from Elaine Downing

Dear Ivanpah Enthusiasts:

I meant to send out an email around the first of October, but we had the shutdown starting October 1. Now that we are back to work, I wanted to tell all that we are no longer requiring the casual use permits, therefore I am not sending renewals out.

Having said that, any organized, commercial and competitive events still require you to submit a special recreation permit application form, plan of operation, safety plan, and deposit, etc. To find out more about when special recreation permits are required and what you need to submit with the application package, please go to: http://www.blm.gov/ca/st/en/prog/recreation/recpermit.html

Also, before you participate in an event you should ask the coordinator of the event to provide you a copy of the event permit. It is a public document and should be shared with participants. It is a violation to participate in a non-permitted activity on public lands where one is required. It is your responsibility to make sure the event you participate in is legal.

If you answer yes to any of the following questions, you are required to submit an application package for a permit between 6-12 months before your expected event dates. If it is determined that you do not need one after all has been submitted, we will let you know after we have had time to review your application package.
DO I NEED A PERMIT?
Preapplication Interview Checklist:
• Are you charging a fee?
• Do you expect to make money on the event or is the fee to cover expenses?
• Will there be a competition?
• Will you advertise?
• Will you mark a course?
• Will you be expecting vehicles at your event? (How many?)
• Will your event involve public lands?
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me. Please pass the word on this. I don't have emails for everyone.

Happy Sailing!
