foot straps are a matter of preference, they should be used by expierenced riders only, in my opinion...
they are very helpfull when doing tricks, and ridding on rough terrain, but if you flip over the buggy your feet will get caught up in the straps and
you will most likely go with the buggy where it goes.....
just be carful and leave them a bit loose so you can get your feet out of them in a hurry if you have to....

I wouldn't bother with foot straps until you get going fast enough over rough terrain that you're feet start bouncing around on the pegs. It gets a
bit scarry when you can't keep them on the footpegs at high speeds. Other than this though the only other reason for footstraps is freestyle.

My first buggy had a bicycle innertube run from one of the footpeg, through the headstock and attached to the other footpeg. This was enough to keep
my feet on when bouncing over the rough stuff, but still loose enough to easily seperate from the bug should I flip it.
I think it is like using a harness, slowly and only you are comfortable.
