11-30-13 It's ON!!!

riffclown - 25-11-2013 at 04:16 PM

I know it's two days after Thanksgiving and shopping time for a lot of folks, BUT it might be a time for us all to finally get together and hit the beach.

For the record, it's also the Kites With Lights event at Jockey's Ridge that evening.

Looks like a larger kite day as well.. Thoughts? Anyone??

I'll have to work on Friday but Saturday is looking pleasant..

It would be better if it was NE or ENE. we could do decent downwinders. We will have to see how the timing works out. Low tide is around 11:30 am that day. Nice.... ;)

WELDNGOD - 27-11-2013 at 12:18 PM

Things are looking better for Saturday. Low tide@ 11:34 am and winds are looking NE to E. Let's keep our fingers crossed.

@ 3shot Are you gonna get to come out and play?

@ Riff Do you still want my original "Green machine" buggy ?

riffclown - 27-11-2013 at 04:19 PM

Absolutely. The GoPro is charged any ready.

WELDNGOD - 28-11-2013 at 07:36 AM

Sat. winds are NE10-15 according to NOAA. Unless something changes,it's a go !

riffclown - 29-11-2013 at 06:22 AM

What time do you want to meet up? I have a few other friends that might show. also charging up the extra GoPro battery now...

WELDNGOD - 29-11-2013 at 06:28 AM

Beach should be ride-able by 8:00 - 9:00 am. Low tide is 11:43 am.

riffclown - 29-11-2013 at 06:33 AM

9-ish sounds really good to me.. Sounds like a really fun day shaping up..

WELDNGOD - 29-11-2013 at 06:39 AM

flyhighWNY - 30-11-2013 at 06:15 AM

Have some fun guy's!! Was supposed to be 12-15mph here not sure what it's going to do so have some fun for me too!

riffclown - 30-11-2013 at 04:20 PM

Weatherman missed the wind direction by a significant mark but it was still a lot of fun. Wind was blowing straight down the beach instead of perpendicular to it so it was a down-winder day. Once we got the system worked out so everyone could play, it was a blast. Thanks Donnie. Tons of fun and now I have to change my sig.

FWIW, I'm glad you've had the chance to fly the Symphony 2.2.4 now.

Hey 3shot the distance today per Google Earth was 1.45 miles per run..

MeatÐriver - 30-11-2013 at 04:36 PM

Right on Riff! Finally got wheels eh?

riffclown - 30-11-2013 at 04:46 PM

Absolutely. And some very cool custom ones at that.

3shot - 30-11-2013 at 05:30 PM

Words can't describe the amount of fun I had today!!! Finally got to meet Donnie. Thank you so much for sharing your sand today Weldngod!! After seeing your buggies first hand, you are in fact a weldngod

As Riff said, less than good conditions, but we managed to survive. Going from jibing a soccer field all day, to riding almost 2 miles straight was... :o :D :singing::bigok::wee::cool:
It was a great first beach experience for me. Even got to slide sideways a lot on the last run. Can't wait to do it again soon!

I know we got a bunch of vid floatin' around here somewhere ;)

Google earth is lying to ya. My Garmin etrex says in 3 runs we went 6.68 miles with a top speed of 26.9mph. I trust that a lot more than google . Glad fun was had in spite of Don Slater being wrong yet again. I might be able to scrape a decent video out of it, maybe.

riffclown - 30-11-2013 at 06:17 PM

Interesting on the distance.

As for the video, with downwinders, your kite gets to stay in frame most of the time. I got some pretty decent video. Just need to get it copied over to the computer.

3shot - 30-11-2013 at 06:33 PM

I think we said the wind was 20+ on the first run? I know with my Rage 1.8 it felt like my hair was on fire even though I brought up the rear LMAO.

And the last run with the Rage 3.5 was even better. Except when passing that second cut I outran the kite. :embarrased:

But, I didn't eat sand, sea foam, or drink salt water so life is good.

WELDNGOD - 30-11-2013 at 06:41 PM

I turned the GPS on right before our runs and turned it off ,when we got to the end. The measurement has always been two and a quarter miles. And I have used it in a vehicle, the speed is accurate too.

riffclown - 30-11-2013 at 07:00 PM

I think we should test it again, repeatedly. Not saying it wrong. Just saying testing it is loads of fun. :D Just let me know when!

riffclown - 1-12-2013 at 11:03 AM

So, The sand is out of the kites and the Buggies have been wiped down... Ready for the next time!!!

3shot - 1-12-2013 at 12:00 PM

Same here. Kites all de-sanded.

riffclown - 1-12-2013 at 12:46 PM

The advantage to having the camera is you get to opt out of the pictures...

Tidewater Wrecking Crew Packing up.. This beats the walk of shame all to heck...

Sorry guys, got a lot of irons in the fire right now. I still have to go through my helmet cam footage. I'll get some stuff out. It's gonna rain this weekend so I'll have time then.
