I purchased a 12 meter slingshot ranger from a guy who had bought it new, flew it once, and decided it was too powerful so he let it sit for the past few years. I received the kite a couple of days ago thinking I would use it for some winter kiting. I took it out for a session yesterday and have decided that this is not the kite for me (too powerful for ice skates which is what I do mostly in the winter and not quick enough for my liking). The kite is in immaculate condition. I did the front line extension mod and put a leash line from the brake line through the bar to the chicken loop. As much as I miss my Ranger, having traded it about two years ago for an Arc, I am in pain seeing yet another one come up for sale here!

Such a good kite, for the right person. Not for newbs, but for anyone that has experience, this kite can really make a difference for you on the low end. Good depower, pure grunt, and with the front line mod, it is a really nice flying kite.

With the colors and scheme on the kite, it just looks great in the air.

I am doing everything possible to not scoop this kite!

On skates, WOOF! Yeah it's a lot of kite. On UBER light wind days it would be good with skates.

I'm with shehatesmyhobbies, but I still have our 12m. I think about selling it for lack of use.

Been thinking about it for years.

Yea, I used it on skates yesterday and the wind was blowing around 10 and the kite had a ton of pull. It was too slow for my liking, though. I realized this after I switched to my 12 meter C kite. I can see the reason for foils if you needed to pack them up and take them somewhere (i.e. hiking). But in Iowa (especially where I'm at) there isn't anything close to resembling a mountain. So, I gave the foils a try and decided that I'll stick to my inflatable kites. This kite has been used a total of 3 times. When I got it and pulled it out of the shipping box, I thought it was new (the guy before me said he used it once). I took it out in the grass for a test fly and then yesterday on the ice. That being said the kite is in really good condition.

The 12m Ranger is a heck of a kite to choose for a first foil. Powerwise it's about the same as a 15m or bigger LEI.

I think a number of first time foil buyers jumped on the Ranger. Bang for the buck it's a ton of kite.

I've said it before and I will say it again, I want to fly YOUR ranger12, because it's some sort of miracle machine that MY ranger12 is not.

Owning a 15m slingshot REV, I would absolutely say that the ranger 12 does NOT provide the same power. I have seen this sort of comment many times, indeed the seller of my ranger12 to me made such a comment, as did the seller of my dad's ranger12. I have never found it to be true.

If my 12m ranger did actually pull like a 15+, I wouldn't have had to buy a 15.

As it is, the 12's only been out of the bag once since I got the 15, and that was to compare them back to back.

My personal experience with this situation makes me very, very, very skeptical about the Flysurfer PEAK claims.....

All I can say is that once the kite is dialed in, it's a damn day saver on light wind days.

The 12m is a heck of an engine. I've bought and sold 3 of them. I always keep one on hand.

Couple of reasons... a) because I really like the way it flies and for the money you can't beat it or replace it. B) On light wind days it gives us a great light wind option for our students. There were 3 day camps that we wouldn't have finished without the Ranger 12. The winds died beyond the range of our 12m Apex 4. On light wind days here it's 12m Ranger, 24 and 19m Arcs, 15 Matrixx and 15-19m Flysurfer.

The Ranger when dialed is a great kite. The only complaint I have is the high bar pressure. Which if I wasn't riding kites with lighter bar pressure I probably wouldn't notice.

When we get our Peaks we'll know for sure if they are what Flysurfer say's they are. I will say the videos they've released offer some pretty convincing evidence. I would rather have our students on these than the Ranger or 19m FS. on light wind days.

If I put our Ranger up for sale Erratic I give you first dibs.:D

I miss our 9m. Never hardly flew it but it was a great kite. One day I miscalculated on some adjustable pigtails that I had made for it and got my a$$ handed to me. UNGODLY power. If you even thought about pulling the bar in you were going to the moon. I would have figured it would stall out the way it was set up but that wasn't the case. Now, as I type this and think about it I think I might be able to get more out of the 12m with the same set up and a longer throw. HMMMMMMMMMMMM

It was never a light-wind machine for me, and I'm talkng on grass with ATB, very low power needed.

I didn't mind the bar pressure, but the absolute lack of anything resembling a safety system is a turn off.

And gods no, I do not want another ranger 12, I can't even effing sell the one I got because every time I try to sell it someone comes along an sells one in better condition.

I just want people to stop saying "oh it pulls like a 15". It pulls like a 12, because it's a 12. If it pulled like a 15, I wouldn't have had to buy a 15.

Yeah the lack of decent safety was kind of an issue. Kept me from pushing the upper end wind range until I added the 4.5 line to the back lines. That made a huge difference in the safety as well as my confidence with it. Still not as good as other safety systems that came out at the same time.

I guess there's no reason why I couldn't put an HQ or Ozone on it and have a descent safety that way. I like the stopper tho!

Between the two of us hijacking this thread, the poor SOB that bought this Ranger must be wondering what he's gotten into. :D

My first depower was a ranger 12m....Only sold because I was getting too many others... Great -great kite and best feeling bar I have tried. I may need to buy one again!
