I'm thinking about making the drive out there to do some Kite Skiing but can't seem to find anything on the conditions of the ice on the lake.

Check with the local fishing shops or snowmobile dealers. Ice fishermen are pretty secretive about their spots but they sorta open up to freaks on
kites. :D
Also check www.iceshanty.com and check reports for your state. If there's no intel on the specific lake you want to ride there may be info on lakes nearby
and you can guess what the likelihood of sound ice will be.
Most importantly don't go out if you don't know the conditions. Without firsthand knowledge (drilling holes at various points of the lake etc...) or a
local guide I won't touch a lake. Get a map, look at Google Earth and find out where the risk areas are. (inlets, outlets, swamps, depth etc...)
This is the problem with snowkiting lakes. Knowing what's "safe" is hard unless you or people you know live nearby and can monitor what the lakes are
doing.
A simple rule of thumb. If the snowmobiles aren't riding it better stay off.
