Man, I am jealous. What was the wind speed and kite size?

zloty - 15-11-2006 at 12:20 PM

Wind was weak NW 10-13,it picked up later to 12-18,but my photographer wasn't with me any more.I did jump over lifeguard truck,I wish I had this shot done.Kite - 6.5 blade IV.
Cheers

SecondWind - 15-11-2006 at 12:21 PM

Looks like the 6.5 - I was wondering about the wind speed also. I'll guess 12 - 14 mph winds...

sockhat - 15-11-2006 at 12:23 PM

Sounds RAD Zloty.
I live in Santa Rosa, and would love to check you out some time.
Let me know and my wife and I will make the trip!!!

I'm on the beach most of the time if wind is above 8mph and tide is lower than 4ft.See You there sockhat...Where do You buggy in Santa Rosa?

SecondWind - 15-11-2006 at 12:38 PM

Could you hold the 6.5 in 18mph OK? I was just wondering what wind speeds you use your 6.5 in.

sockhat - 15-11-2006 at 12:40 PM

Any where I can...
The old airport works good, and Bodega Harbor when the tide's way down.
We were going to Sears Point at the over flow/RV parking lot, but they ran us out... Something about enviromental impact????

Anyway - Lookin' forward to it.

Will you be at NABX '07???

zloty - 15-11-2006 at 12:48 PM

Blade IV 6.5 is great kite with huge wind range.I fly this kite from 8-18mph tks to depower system(ajusting knots on bridles)High wind is not a probllem for me if I have lots of room. However when tide is high I can't buggy in over 15mph as You go side ways a lot and each jump is a long one ~ more than 10'.It is also worth to say that I'm 200lb and that is why I can ride higher winds without being ejected or going sideways.I will be at 07'NABX ofcourse.

pea - 15-11-2006 at 01:56 PM

Lol environmental impact?! quiet, everyone likes kites, do buggies wear down tarmac that much?

sockhat - 15-11-2006 at 02:13 PM

Well Pea,

The lot is Dirt, and it is about a 1/2 mile from some wet lands.
We had permission from the track athorities for our first five visits.
Then they came and ran us off...

I am very enviromentally savy,so to speak. I'm in collage now studying conservation. But, apparently, they have an easment(?) with the water agency that onley allows use of the area a certain number of days per year. Allowing us to use the area puts them in "violation"...

Cool Zloty, see ya there, if not sooner!!!

pea - 16-11-2006 at 03:27 AM

Mmmm..It's like, if it looks remotely fun it must be illegal or damaging something of some kind. Shopping center near me banned people wearing types of clothing at one point, it was all over the english news as a joke.

FreeFlyFrog - 16-11-2006 at 12:55 PM

Nice shots slawek, Tony and I were near waddel yesterday and had lots of fun with the 12m frenzy and the 7.7 crossfire. We got buzzed by a stunt plane, he came to about 15 feet away from the kite it was exciting. I think he almost didn't see us as he was flying in formation with another plane. Tony finaly got to sit in a buggy, he did some good jumps too with the crossfire getting 6 feet plus verticaly.

sockhat - 16-11-2006 at 02:42 PM

I think There are some similarities Pea...

sockhat - 16-11-2006 at 02:49 PM

khooke - 19-11-2006 at 02:38 PM

Hey Slawek - ok, I'm jealous! I made the drive from Davis to Ocean Beach a few weeks back on a Saturday, last time the tide was below a 0. Beach was awesome, but there was only a 2-3mph wind. Sat around for an hour or so and watched the surfers, then headed home. Traffic sucked and so spent 6 hours driving for zero buggying. Guess thats the way it happens sometimes.

What's the protective gear you're wearing - is that 661 stuff? Looks pretty serious. I'm looking for some waterproof padded pants for some beach buggying - any suggestions?

Went to Dillon beach camping last weekend. Didn't get there on Saturday until an hour before suset, but the wind was blowing a steady 20mph. Can't remember last time I buggied in wind this strong and it was seriosly awesome. Only got about 15mins in before it was too dark, but it was seriously awesome!

Cheers, Kev

Khooke,I never go there if wind suck and every day I watch forecasts.As You know to fly kites You need wind and not just any wind if You want to buggy/landboard.Ocean beach is so far the best place for me because it is so big and safer than other places.However to have a go there You need wind min 8mph SW to NW and tide lower than 4ft.You also should consider Sunny weekend as not best day to do it as it is little crowded sometimes.Here is what I use to get all this info before I hit 30min-1hour drive there;
for wind and tide- http://www.flyfunston.org/newwebcam/

Picture of Ocean Beach for people trafic- http://www.evsboca.com/usgs/default.htm
You can also call machine for current and past hour condition 415 333 0100.
I use 661 lunch pressure siut, but You will be little overdress if You plan to stay on ground.I would recommend helmet as a must and additional knee pads for landboard.
Cheers
