Sorry for the pain and difficulties.

Don't be the Evel Knievel of kiting....(in breaking personal records at the cost of breaking every bone in his body)- But do be the Evil Knievel of kiting..who healed up better and stronger boned than before.

Heal fast Scott!

PHREERIDER - 2-3-2014 at 05:44 PM

Heal up quick!

markite - 2-3-2014 at 11:10 PM

Wow Scott, that's not nice to hear - it could have been a lot worse but that is still serious enough. Speedy recovery and hope to see you out riding this year. Wildwood might be too close to call - how about JIBE?

ssayre - 3-3-2014 at 07:30 AM

Scary stuff, hoping for a speedy recovery for you.

bigkid - 3-3-2014 at 08:35 AM

Damb kids, you tell them over and over and they never listen.
Dont leave us hanging, what did the doctors say, prognosis?
I know what your wife said, and what she is going to say over and over before you go out again and play. Hope she is doing OK.
You my friend, rest, heal, and...... you dont need anyone to tell you the rest, you already know.
Anything we can do to help, let us know.

cheezycheese - 3-3-2014 at 08:42 AM

Damn dude this sucks...:( speedy recovery...

dirtslide - 3-3-2014 at 10:08 AM

Speedy healing to you flyguy. hoping that all turns out well with recovery . Back brace doesn't sound like any fun but better than rods and screws in the spine ;)

B-Roc - 3-3-2014 at 10:08 AM

Ouch. Best wishes for a quick and total recovery. What size kite were you on?

bobalooie57 - 3-3-2014 at 10:37 AM

:( Sorry to hear that, Scott. 30 feet up can work on water, or 3 feet of powder snow, but makes for a hard landing otherwise. Take your time and heal up. Good Luck.

snowspider - 3-3-2014 at 11:05 AM

Getting a queezy feeling just thinking about it. Best wishes big guy. Hows Andrew doing with it?

carltb - 3-3-2014 at 11:30 AM

sorry to hear about your injury dude, heal up fast and take it sleazy!!

buggydanny - 3-3-2014 at 11:39 AM

Scott

Sorry to hear about the injury. It really hits home when it happens to one of us.

I recommend you take time to heal and listen to your doctors advise. The wind will still be there when you recover.

I hope your wife is understanding and that this does not put a end to Andrews kiting.

Let us know if there is anything we can do to help.

Dan

BeamerBob - 3-3-2014 at 12:10 PM

Wow, Scott I was coming on here to hear about your big jump and was shocked to hear you got hurt in the process. Praying you have a quick and full recovery.

flyguy0101 - 3-3-2014 at 02:13 PM

guys I have tried twice to write my story and my pos computer and weak wifi at the hospital have crashed it so I will write an in depth report when I arrive home. thank you to all for the prayers and well wishes
scott
HIghlights- freak gust right after I sent kite for jump provide elevator that took me 35-40 feet up, I was able to redirect three times before wind died which helped me to fall from only ~20 feet instead of higher- lucky! Did fracture my t-11 vertabrea and will be in body brace for the next 12 weeks unless lieing in bed. And no kiting or active sports for 6 months- sounds rough but I am happy my angel was watching and I am not in a wheelchair more to follow I promise- And Yes I was scared $#!^less

winds 12-15 gusting to mid to upper 20s and was flying my 15m charger

3shot - 3-3-2014 at 02:20 PM

6 months. OUCH. Stay in good spirits bro! Like you said, thank God you are not in a wheel chair.

Demoknight - 3-3-2014 at 04:12 PM

So sorry to hear of your injury! I, like several others read your title and got ready for an epic air photo or story. My mind was blown when I saw you got hurt. Heal fast mate, and listen to the doctors.

Dayhiker - 3-3-2014 at 04:40 PM

Glad to hear your going to be okay. I joined the forum yesterday & who welcomes me? You, a guy in a hospital. He who was flying at an area near by & suffers great misfortune but still has a moment to welcome a new forum member. Talk about Southern hospitality! You even want to know where I am from in the highlands of Virginia. I am located in Smyth county out in the rural area not too far from Marion Virginia. Hope to meet you sometime this year. Contact me if you're in the area. You have a new kite friend. Thank you.

bigkid - 3-3-2014 at 05:35 PM

Good to hear it wasnt the neck, t-11 puts in in the lower rib area commonly called the thoracic section. Im no longer a dummy about head, neck, chest, spine damage. 6 months may seem like a long time but is much shorter than 2 years. Ribs take 10 months to completely heal.
Let your back heal and the chances of problems later on will be not so bad.

shehatesmyhobbies - 3-3-2014 at 07:26 PM

Just got off the phone with Scott. He really is in good spirits and says that it only hurts when he coughs or hiccups (side effect of the little pills). He was up walking around with his brace on quite a bit today he said. He had just woke up from a little nap when I called. After our conversation he was heading back for another nap! He was scheduled to go home today but due to the snow in the area of his home, his wife was not able to go pick him up.

It's amazing how he still talked with the same enthusiasm as he does when he is telling any of his kiting stories. This guy as most of us know is tough as nails when it comes to hitting the ground. He has had more bruises in one weekend of kiting than many of us have had in a lifetime. Not because he is a bad kite flier, but because he always goes for it and tries to advance his skills. He is an outstanding pilot and has some great skills on the board. I am sure he will be back on the board or buggy not long after the doc allows.

I am sure once he gets home tomorrow he will check in!

Scott it was great talking to you as always! Heal up soon and hope to see you for a couple days at WBB even if it is to just hang out!

3shot - 3-3-2014 at 07:28 PM

Thanks for the update Rich!

AnnieO - 3-3-2014 at 10:26 PM

Dang. That's a scary shocker. Glad you're now on your way to recovery. Hang in there.

stetson05 - 4-3-2014 at 11:34 AM

Hope you heal well. I'm glad you kept your head and kept redirecting the kite. It can mean the difference between an epic jump or an epic tragedy. Don't forget to take the stool softeners and heal fast.

Windy Heap - 5-3-2014 at 01:32 PM

Hopefully cute nurses and Bored / Drugged wife's provide good full body sponge bathes over the next couple months!

pyro22487 - 7-3-2014 at 01:29 AM

I skipped this thread until today. I just saw the other one about the back injury and was like... SAY WHAT????? Broken back wow that's painful hears wishes from central Oklahoma.

Proletariat - 7-3-2014 at 01:52 AM

Crap man. That sucks. That's a long time to be out but I'm glad to hear it's not worse. 20ish feet is no joke (fell 15 feet off a rock and shattered my ankle in 2003). I get shivers when I hear 15m and 20+ in the same sentence. Take care of yourself and remember, you had kids so they could do #@%$#! for you that you don't wanna do. Use that, man... Use it. :)
