NAPKA Racing at IBB

shehatesmyhobbies - 16-3-2014 at 03:32 PM

Hey everyone, I just want to remind you that if you plan on being part of the racing that is going on at IBB through NAPKA, that you must be a member to participate in the racing. On the website is also an area that you can register for the racing at IBB.

If you plan to race and are not a member at this point, please got to NAPKA website and become a member. The cost is $40. This will give you a one year membership to not only race at this event but also attend any other NAPKA event in that year. There are several WA events, two WBB events and now a JIBE event as well.

Please understand that joining now will make things a lot easier when you get to the playa! While at our site, take a look at the racing rules, it will help you in the long run.

Any other interest in racing? As of now there are only 3.

BeamerBob - 17-3-2014 at 10:18 AM

I just signed up! Thanks for pointing this out for everyone Rich and for the links to make it easy Morrie.

Morrie Williams - 17-3-2014 at 10:55 AM

Not racing Bob? If so, you should have picked a class.

sunset-Jim - 17-3-2014 at 12:38 PM

We'll just put him where we want to then :bigok:

BeamerBob - 17-3-2014 at 01:28 PM

Now I'm stuck. I'm already registered and can't edit my registration. Since I've never raced around a cone before, even "Open class" sounds like a little above my experience level, but I'm certainly no expert. Like Jim said, put me where you need me to go.

Morrie Williams - 17-3-2014 at 03:31 PM

I've edited your sign-up and put you in open class. Anyone else need some class?

Rich and Jimmy, you can edit those too!

BeamerBob - 17-3-2014 at 05:16 PM

Ok so it's me and Ken 1!

sand flea - 17-3-2014 at 05:41 PM

I'm in!

see ya in 12 days!!!!!

RonH - 17-3-2014 at 06:00 PM

I have no class:o:o:o

shehatesmyhobbies - 17-3-2014 at 06:29 PM

Ron you just need to check the one that says " I GO FAST!" :D

That is one of many reasons I enjoy hanging with you !
I have no class either and am happy to keep that status. :smug:

bobalooie57 - 18-3-2014 at 06:51 AM

:( Sadly, you forgot to include the category "Outclassed"!

Morrie Williams - 18-3-2014 at 08:01 AM

That's what the class "N/A" is for.

sunset-Jim - 19-3-2014 at 02:41 PM

I have to say that I'm a bit suprised on the lack of interest so far in the race event. I would love to hear from more and why they themselves aren't interested or their theories on why it seems to be so. If nothing else let's get some conversation going.

kite killer - 19-3-2014 at 03:23 PM

Would love to jump in and whoop some a@*#(*#&. I can only get me and my gear out there with no extra dough to spare. Thought of racing does get the heart pumping for sure.

There seems to a lack of interest in the whole event for some reason... 36 registered flyers:puzzled:

I'm not looking at it as a race... It's a chance to learn, especially on the dry lake surface. It's so different from anything else.

Ron

sunset-Jim - 19-3-2014 at 06:09 PM

Then hopefully some day kite killer :)

I know what ya mean Ron, it'll just have to be up to those that do make it to make it the best it can be. First year and all.

Another person shared with me their concerns of how some take it too seriously and suck the fun out of it with bickering and pettiness. That is a very geniune concern, something that the race committee has discused and hopes to avoid it. First off it will be emphasized that this is another source of how to have a blast in a buggy. Those that don't comply will be taken out to the quartz field and shot... well, maybe tongue lashed anyway. 2nd, if we want racing to take off we need to keep it respectable. One way to be asked not to participate is to be detrimental to what our goals are, to have racing that we can be proud of.

MeatÐriver - 19-3-2014 at 07:12 PM

I'm thinking of jumping in knowing I'd get my a$$ whooped. It's about fun right? Though the higher end of my quiver is less than ideal for upwind. Also, somewhat nervous of a high traction surface.... so use to being able to blast down the beach sideways.I can squeeze out the membership fee, but I'm on a time crunch right now finishing the buggy-mobile, work, house stuffs, before I can get to making sideplates and such. Start twisting my arm, please!

Nervous about the surface... Don't worry, my first time out and I was wondering how to turn around and get back to camp with at least a mile of room:o:o

Membership gets you the Washington events too. Some very nice beaches:thumbup:

If you make it out east, wildwood and jibe are napka events:thumbup:

A piece of coreplast for number plates will do in a pinch.

MeatÐriver - 19-3-2014 at 07:49 PM

Idk Ron.... as you may or may not know, I am quite partial to 18pk beer boxes converted into functional buggy accessories. :D

BeamerBob - 19-3-2014 at 08:05 PM

All discussions about the racing at IBB have been along the lines of inclusive of anyone that wishes to participate, keeping it safe and having fun. The races look to be a good way to learn and improve your skills. I've never done it but think it will be fun to give it a try.

Registration numbers displayed online lag somewhat to realtime. The 36 number is no longer accurate, as registration has seemed to escalate as we get closer to the event.

MeatÐriver - 19-3-2014 at 09:10 PM

Well NAPKA membership steps 1&2 done. Will fill out the waiver, send it tomorrow morning and should be ready to rock. As for the the"nervous", I'm sure, as per usual, Eli will tell me to go and do "this"....and in turn I will go do just "that" and I will be "oh...that was easy"

USA_Eli_A - 19-3-2014 at 09:59 PM

I hope everyone races that can. It'll be sweet. The course is a little tough, but there is plenty of room for everyone to race!

A few of us are leading a practice clinic before races. The course is usually set up way before races start so everyone can practice.

The key is to just finish your laps, the score sheet always surprises!

There are distance events also, I think IBB staff is keeping track of high speeds, total distance per day ect...

ripsessionkites - 20-3-2014 at 11:27 AM

can i enter without being NAPKA at this moment?

if i cant make it around the first few cones, ill drop out. :)

Morrie Williams - 20-3-2014 at 11:36 AM

In order to race, you MUST be a current paid member of NAPKA.

BeamerBob - 20-3-2014 at 12:13 PM

Rip, the racing is the only activity that requires NAPKA membership. There will be plaques given for many of the achievements available. One is for cutest in their pink skirt so you've always got that one if Dino doesn't compete for it.:D

sunset-Jim - 24-3-2014 at 06:30 AM

Would like to add a little something to those that just might be a little intmidated by the thought of racing. As long as we have enough participants we will hold 2 classifications, master and open. The open class is to help get your feet wet. Their will be trophies for the top 3 finishers in both classes.

We will have some cones set out Monday and Tuesday for anybody to just get out there and to have fun with. And yes, to try to drum up more interest :) a race clinic is planned for Tuesday. All are welcomed to come check that out. Final registration for racing will be shortley after this clinic.

Enjoy all, it's almost time

Okay, I just signed up. This should be a fun learning experience.

sunset-Jim - 25-3-2014 at 06:05 AM

Awesome, a couple more on board. Be sure not to miss the race clinic on Tuesday. There will be some good info.
