Caution!!!

soliver - 25-3-2014 at 08:48 AM

Just got an unsolicited email from someone claiming to be from Sweden asking if I still wanted the "item" which I posted I was looking for in this "wanted" section of the forum almost a year ago. Sure sign of a scam.

Email came from "Carlos pereiro Lopez"

Watch out gang!

I used to get assorted email from people wanted to know if I was a buggy dealer and they were interested in buying.

Even the cat snickered.

Sam

This comes up quite often. Someone from outside the US makes you a sweet offer on your unsold item. Like you have been told before, if it sounds to good, it is.
They usually pay with a strange paypal account and you send off the item.
They call paypal and say they never got the item and you end up paying them back and the item sold is reported as lost in space.

This is one of the dozens of SCAMS I deal with monthly.

I have one or two of those before ...

Yeah, I just got the email from the same guy today as well.

Same here. I knew it was a scam because he didn't specify the "item" I was trying to buy or sell, and he sent me two identical emails for separate forum posts I had made in the past.

a guy called me a few months ago just before the holidays and asked me if I knew the buyer that he sold his stuff to, and my answer was no not personally but yes by the dozens of emails that have been sent out.
it sounded like a real deal until he found the buyers name wasnt spelled the same as he posted here on the forum.
After he sent me the guys info I made a call and found the scammer wasn't the same name or person here on the forum. The sad part was he was going to use the money for his kids Christmas presents.
knowing what happened,, and the extent of loss I am sure he is not willing to share the information. but after a little bit of joking and sad humor I think I helped him out more than he was expecting, at least the Christmas card said thank you very very much from all of us.

I am NOT trying to be a downer, or to rain on someones parade, as some of the emails I get are quite hilarious, but some of them are pretty good. For those who know what a real 100 dollar bill looks like, you are able to distinguish the real from a fake. Not everyone is able to see the humor right away, some take a little longer to see the humor.
As the guy told me, it's only funny when it happens to the other guy.

my wife calls me a pessimist, that I can see the bad in people a mile away. I like to think it's called an optimist when I know what's coming. Even the best are beat at some point.

My favorite one happen to me last summer..

I was looking into getting another parrot to keep the one i have company during the day..even if my wife said NO (that's another story ) :)

i replied to an add about a blue and gold maccaw in the Ottawa area.. the guy replied and it was now a pair of adults and i could have them for free, all i need to do is pay for shipping,, he really only wanted a loving family to take care of his love ones...
sooo, i tell him , great !! i live in gatineau 10 minutes from Ottawa, when can i come pick them up ???

then he replies back stating he's in British Columbia ??? hummm ok no problem, i have a friend that lives there, give me your address and he will drop by to see the birds, he's driving down in a week so he could bring them to me...
well after more excuses of not beeing avalable or needed to travel out of town blabla bla...
he said just send 460$ and i will ship them to you....

i said nope,,, just crate them, put them on the plane as live cargo and i will pay their travel fair when they get here...

i knew it was a scam from the begining because of the price, but i did have fun with this guy for a two weeks.. i tracked his IP address to some internet cafe in Nigeria.. when i got tired of playing with him, i told him that since he's trying to scam me from there, i will forward the info to autorities so they can look into the cafe to see who was logged in at the times i have, he never got back to me....

i hope the birds are doing well :-D

they scam with anything, animals is a real doozy one..,lots of people get caught in that, send $$$ for shipping, then they say they need vet checks and more $$ since they already sent $$ they figure a little more will get them the animal but noooo they then need more for permits and after getting the max from you they disapear...
