The Kite curse is broken!

Got to Garry Point Park at around 8:30am to find that Vlad and Mike (Oldfart) were already there.
Vlad was Buggying with his 8 meter and Mike was flying static with his 6 meter Hornet.
I managed to get a short ride in on my new 5.5 R3 but the wind then died.
We hung out for a while and then Mike sacrificed himself to the wind god and went home.
Shortly after he left , the wind came up from the SW but was pretty light.
Vlad continued on slowly with his 8 meter and I decided to put up my new 10.8 R3 which made a huge difference.
I managed to buggy a couple more hours on that beauty running the entire length of the park and not once did it dip into the leftover goose poo lake.
As I was running the length of the park, and noticed out of the corner of my eye that it looked like my beach racers (tires) were flinging a lot of dirt up but realized that it was not dirt…it was goose poop.
After I packed up and went home, I decided to go to the car wash station near my house and pressure wash the crap off my tires and the underside of the buggy.
Well….that was a bit of a mistake cuz as the pressure washer was spraying the crap off my tires, it was flinging it around and now I’m covered in goose poop.
The buggy was nice and clean and I was the dirty one…lol
All in all….it was a great day (arms are a little sore)

Funny how the stoke from a good day can out do the poo that life can throw at you. :D

Sounds like good times with an awesome kite! Loving my R3's so far, got some nice dawn&dusk rides in on them @ IBB. Ron and a couple others were laying some serious tracks on Ivanpah with their smaller sizes.

Though that 10.8 is a lot of wing for a wee leprechaun! Share some of that pot o' gold... I need a few more R3's myself. We'll see you soon at SOBB. The only poops you will have to dodge well be my own!

Sweet! I'm still loving my RIIs, and had a similar session recently with my 8.6m then switching to my 5.5m as it picked up... Though I don't have a huge place to ride like GP.

tdmc, how do you find the new Reactors act differently than the RIIs? Just curious.

I really have no comparison for the R2's to the R3's but can say they have the same great stability as the R1's (as I have the 4.9 and 8.3) but a heck of a lot faster.

I havn't had the chance to fly them at any great speed yet but SOBB will tell.
I believe RonH has a 5.5 in the R2 so if he comes to SOBB, we will do a comparison.
The 5.5 is my go to kite now...just love it!

Cheers

I like my RII 5.5 on the beach... We didn't get along too well in our small park. I definitely found it's top end on the beach last year.

I raced at IBB with it. I was a little overpowered but hey, not many people can say they went out with more kite than Eli.:cool:

The 2.8 R3 was my go to kite at IBB. It's got a couple more gears when the wind picks up:thumbup:

It also has a few quirks in lower wind or in the shifty wind at Ivanpah...

R3's could be the new favs soon.

Ron, can you tell any note able difference between R2 & R3?

Bladerunner - 11-4-2014 at 04:56 PM

Looks like a sunny dry weekend. Too bad there isn't much wind with it.
I still think we should meet up Sunday and practice complaining about how crappy GP is compared to what our friends down south have ! I can bug you about not getting to IBB and you can bug me about missing SOBB ( if I do ) .

We can both see if our new Big kites will fly in next to no wind . I'm willing to get the SA a bit dirty if your willing to dirty up your R3! :bigok:

Soliver. Pretty sure the R3 has reduced bridle. Ron and Ken 1 both seem to like them a lot but I can't speak for them and haven't flown them myself. They sure are purdy lookin' rags when in the sky !

I think I would like to compare apples to apples and fly K3's R3 and my R2 - both 5.5m or 10.8m for a fair comparison.

First thing I will say is they both favour the mid to upper portion of their wind range...

My first impression is the R3 IS the faster kite. Maybe only noticeable at the top end.

I'll let you know after Spring SOBB!!!

The R3 looks like a completely different kite from your perspective in your video Ron.

It is a beautiful looking thing and I could pick you out from as far as I could see when looking at the top ! Almost a shame the bottom is so plain ? Of course looks don't win races.

I believe you are correct that the top end is where you will see the difference between R2 and R3. That is where the reduced bridle etc. will stand out.
