Something that happens at WBB that I wasn't aware of until I got there is that groovy FREE raffle that you do !

For those that don't know , folks bring stuff that they aren't using or just want to contribute and it all goes on a table . On the night of the big ( pig ) party raffle tickets are handed out. Some very cool stuff was contributed and it was fun coming home with a golf ball kite stake. I actually use it !

I won't be there but for $25 you can have my raffle ticket ! :P

This is a fun part of the event but this year Rich mentioned something about saving it all for the fall bash and using this to our club's benefit for a fund raiser....either way it's a win win.....I want to ride for cancer or diabetes....more for cancer so I can paint some hot pink racing tins and wear a T-shirt that says

Bruce that is kind of offensive. I don't know if those images are meant to be funny. They are not.

Bro, I lost my mother, grandmother, and sister to breast cancer. As much as I kid around some things just are off limits.

Cheezy, Bruce and I have had several conversations about having fund raisers at the next bash for the American Cancer Society. He wants to help and is very serious about the cause. He means no harm with his post. Bruce suffers as have many of our other close buggy family with different types of cancer, Diabetes, and other things that they have no control over.

So yes everyone, if you have kite related items you would like to donate, save them for the fall bash. We will forgo the free raffle this time around and raise money for a great cause in the fall.

Hey Marc
I also lost my mom, aunts and relatives to breast cancer and my sister is a survivor - like you I saw t-shirts with similar messages and was taken back at first and then found out that most of these designs are by women for women that have decided to inject some humor to bring to the fore front the fight against breast cancer. Every year there are a couple of different big events like walks to raise awareness and money to fight breast cancer and there are teams of women that participate with some going through it, others gone through it and many relatives and supporters of those - most of the teams have their own t-shiest with very similar approaches and team names. It is controversial and one recent campaign produced the pink wrist bands with "I Love Boobies" and kids were wearing them to school, some in support but some worn by people as a joke so everyone has a different take on it and schools banned them. I don't think Bruce intended to be offensive but i do understand your feelings.

There was nothing derogatory about cancer in the message of BES's post. We have all lived, known or do know someone that has died or has been lucky enough to survive this horrific disease. My family as well.

Cheezy, BYW sorry for your loss bro!

I do have to comment that breast cancer is the most widely known due to its advertising. Some of it is just down right comical (for that reason!). Save the ta ta's is one of its best in my opinion. I would be proud to have that on my buggy, Well if i was on one. hehehe

I would hope by now (as much as I joke) people would know me enough that I would never be that insensitive to something like this...

For the record...

I would take this very seriously as a fund raiser. Rich has been toying this idea from my first WW event so...

I too have and/or lost friends/family members to this dreaded disease which is why I was so excited to be a part of something like this for a fund raiser through our club. Especially since I don't really run/walk...this would be awesome to kite n buggy and be able to contribute money and awareness towards this cause...

The t-shirts are real. There are thousands of people at the last fund raiser I attended that were wearing this exact thing so...my intention was never to upset anyone. Although my approach is always going to be on the lighter side...that is sometimes whats get people through the hard times...

14 months ago I woke up one day to someone telling me I had type I diabetes...scares the #@%$#! out of me...life altering changes that I have no control over any more...but I still joke around about it all the time....I have to....life is too short to sit and dwell...I'm kicking the diseases ass for now but who knows what the future will bring...

I know we have had some PKF members with cancer etc and even though I have diabetes the "CANCER" thing has hit harder to home with me and that is why I'd prefer to raise for that cause...

Again I apologize if I offended but as stated I would put in 110% for the cause...I want pink t-shirts, pink flamed racing tins and I'd search high and low for a punk flexi kite.

I feel for anyone that has lost a loved one to this or is going through it now.....

xoxoBruce

Cheezy you are no Debbie Downer....You have had some bad cards dealt to you and I feel for your loss.

I look forward to seeing my brother from another mother and giving you a big hug...Hopefully you can make it and I really hope we can do a big fund raiser for this cause with our PKF family.
