Power Kite Forum

Looking for a review of 4mkites

pastorbudwine - 25-4-2014 at 05:48 AM

I have been looking on eBay for a few different things and I keep coming across the seller 4mkites and didn't know if anybody has ever got anything from there

flyguy0101 - 25-4-2014 at 06:04 AM

pastor you need to be saved from the cheap cost ideas :D - cannot tell you anything about 4mkites but if you want to buy a kite that flys and will work when you get it then buy form one of the many shops on this forum- or better yet consider buying used to save some bucks and still get a decent deal. Buy brand name and life will just be better, i have very limited experience with them but look at PKD kites seem to be priced right and fly well as well but cant really go wrong with a reral brand name kite
good luck

They will be classic China kites. Poor quality control and material. Avoid them.

I agree that the best deals on new entry level kites are the PKD Buster Soulfly. Buster is a good kite that will last + be backed by the company. Nice looking kites to !

Funds tend to be my problem I wish I had hundreds or even thousands of dollars to buy a kite with but my wife would strangle me with the kite strings if i did, which is why I keep looking for deals on here and ebay every now and again. More than likely I will have to be content with my 3m scout 2 for awhile until our student loans are paid off and then I will have a lot more expendable cash around

indigo_wolf - 25-4-2014 at 08:28 AM

In addition to quality concerns a lot of their kites tend to "borrow" the sail color/layout of popular kites by other manufacturers.

Here are two of their kites in flight.

Might always want to check out the earlier thread:
4m kites?

What slot in your kite quiver are you trying to fill?

something that is a step up from my trainer kite that I have, that might have enough power to pull me around about. I am not in to big of a rush to get a new kite just trying to get as much information as I can to make an informed decision when the time comes. like I said the funds are a little low at the moment so we will see what happens when the time comes to get something a bit bigger.

Another option is if you are in a location with some other flyers, you may be able to hook up with them - most of us would be happy to let you fly our kites, to provide the experience of flying other sizes and styles.

Pastor........

Have you connected with Great Lakes Kitefliers Society at flyglks.com ?

I am a corporate sponsor, originally from Niagara presently living in Western Canada. You will find my link at the bottom of their info page.

Send me a U2U.

I have a quiver of used foils that may be of interest to you. Can ship direct or get one of GLKS Canadian members to bring it to a club fly.

Very wise to ask questions and take your time.

Definitely try and meet up with others ! Nothing like trying or even just seeing others gear.

If money is tight then second hand will be your best bet. Prices are usually very good on this site. I suggest if you find a kite on Ebay or something you ask about it on here before bidding.

1 more kite and then you need to worry about the wife bashing you over the head with your buggy or mountain board ! ;)
Seriously, the fun REALLY starts when you get moving !

Funny thing is their REV knockoffs are really nice...

pastorbudwine - 25-4-2014 at 08:01 PM

I was more wondering about their kite lines than anything

Bladerunner - 25-4-2014 at 11:09 PM

The $42 one will be total junk.

The other will have handles and lines that look the job but are inferior . Sort of like the kite.

That Adam you ask about is a step up but still not something I would get behind.

Another +1 for buying right off this sight. Most people know of each other and will steer you towards a kite that suit your needs!

From what I read on normal kite forums, 4mkites is a reputable seller. Only bought accessories there.

It is their kites that might be of variable quality. I have non power kites from China (Aliexpress), ranging from fairly bad to top notch workmanship and materials. And the worst also flies badly. But I have a nice $25 10 ft delta. And the $12.25 200x70cm foil is also good for the money, but cheaply made. Cheap non-ripstop material, cheap bridle lines etc. But it is OK and what got me interested in power kites. Below 10 mph it is not worth much though. and pulling one side deforms it a lot, which is what limits the lower wind range.

bigE123 - 27-3-2015 at 06:14 AM

I think that just about says it all.... I would not power kite with anything I don't trust, an injury is only waiting to happen, it's "Ok mmm" something going wrong with the kite when powered is not something you can cater for.

pastorb, I am in Jamestown, NY, recently moved here from Lewis County, up north. I have been flying at Long Point S.P. on Chautauqua Lake, buggying in the marina parking lot. I have flown static at both Lake Erie S.P., and Evangola S.P., Evangola looks like it could be buggyable(?) in the off season,(only about 150 yds of beach though) I imagine it gets pretty crowded in the summer. I have to go up north this W/E but would be willing to meet up sometime/somewhere and let you try out some of my gear. U2U me or e-mail (click e-mail beneath my sig) I also have a guy in Fredonia looking to start this craziness, maybe we could all meet up sometime. Bob

The small 200x70 cm is not much power kite, but a fun 2-liner for the money. Lines broke on 5th session. A toy even my son likes at 7. And Chinese rods are bad. But cheap fun while it lasts. And if gets people started, then it did its purpose.

volock - 27-3-2015 at 03:04 PM

Out of curiosity where are you located?

povlhp - 28-3-2015 at 06:50 AM

I am located in Denmark, east coast of Jutland / Jylland. So I live in an area with higher prices than the US, so I buy lots of different stuff in China. For kite lines, I found the lines for my quad stunt kites (100-150 lbs dynema) pretty good value fro money from China. Half price of cheapest around here, and probably around same quality. Also tried the fishing lines, they are no good. And I have some pretty good China 250 lbs kite line, yellowish in color, for larger SLKs.Way thicker/heavier than my 150 lbs (more like bridle line), so I suspect it is also way stronger than 250 lbs. It is also somewhat thicker than Qunlon 180 kg line.

But conclusion is, the products from China is of variable quality. Freilein is a company with prices in the high end for China, but they make top quality kites. Even had Recvolution resellers state that workmanship are better than Revolution kites. (no power kites). And they are usually religious about it.

I have a 3 meter delta SLK, which is fine. But as usual, the included composite rods/tubes are not too good, so these would have to be replaced when the first breaks. So for SLKs consider the price as a sail-only price. And they all come with nylon lines that are not strong enough IMHO.

Some sellers, like 4mkites, are considered good and reputable, so is Emmaskites. Look at eBay ratings and number of sales. They try to keep away from the worst products.

Aliexpress has all sort of stuff, but there are cheaters there, and most products cheaper than elsewhere. But they have specialty items. Just ordered 3 very cheap kites there. Orders frozen due to fraud, and the 2 of the 3 tracking numbers where delivered to post codes way away from my home. So waiting for a refund.
