South tower run vids

3shot - 16-5-2014 at 07:40 PM

All raw footage until I can get some edit time in. Just wanted to get something up for those that could not be here this year.

Kinda long uncut run, but worth the watch I think. It puts things into perspective. This weeS-P-A-M-L-I-N-K-s experiences have been nothing short of amazing. I can't put it into words at the moment..

It's great in HD full screen

 Thumbs up. Great soundtrack. Give your arms a rest. That was a loooong run.

ssayre - 16-5-2014 at 08:13 PM

Awesome bro, thanks for the ride. Where's the toxics?

3shot - 16-5-2014 at 08:21 PM

Thanks guys. Could have easily went another mile up the beach too. Honestly, the PopEye arm style doesn't really bother me. The bad part was I had my harness on most of that day LOL. Most everyone did several extended runs up and down that day. The perfect onshore wind was EPIC. Ssayre, the 4m Toxic saw plenty of air time on Monday and Tuesday.

Here is how we roll when the wind is coming almost straight down the beach. I think I need some new tread now LMAO. All downturns. Got zipping pretty good in such a short distance. Slung sand everywhere  .

Again, raw footage..

Good work Jason... You and I were strong armin' all day... I've got TONS of similar footage that I'm excited to get into next week. See y'all next year I hope!

Thanks guys! Ssayre, here is part of a 4m Toxic run.

3shot, watching the sand roll beneath your wheel reminds me of the end scene in 2001 A Space odyssey.
Mute and watch your video whilst also playing the video below. Its a trip.

Thanks for showing a run with the toxic. Am I the only one that can't see the second video you posted? When I click on it, it says it's private.

Redsky, I haven't seen that movie but I my have to watch it after seeing a little of that clip.

Oops:embarrased:
Can you guys see it now??

Dayhiker - 18-5-2014 at 05:19 AM

The Toxic 4 meter run really shows me things I want to see. The kite & it's shadow dancing through the frame, the lines are even visible. The ground rushing by with the sound of the wheels. And of course the sound of the wind. I can almost hear the waves & imagine the sand stinging a bit. Thank you for showing me what to expect when I get to do this some day soon.

How long are these runs?
What is the height change?
Is the beach normally this smooth?

PHREERIDER - 18-5-2014 at 10:16 AM

soliver - 18-5-2014 at 10:35 AM

At low tide the water is at least 300 feet from the dunes, probably more. At high tide there is no beach, only dunes. I'm not sure how the elevation changes from the dunes to the water but it's a slow decent. And yes the JI sand is VERY fine and the hardpacked sand is practically like concrete it's so smooth.

Really awesome beach for buggying for sure.

PHREERIDER - 18-5-2014 at 10:48 AM

like soliver said a deluxe spot! here are some details,
tides can ranges -1' to 10' but typical drop is about 7 feet, twice daily advancing about an hour a day. dune line to dune apex is 20feet+ in some spots, dune activity is strictly prohibited.

heavy N/NE can ditch things up abit but really never a issue

AudereEng - 18-5-2014 at 08:01 PM

Very cool beach - I think the fine sand means a shallow off shore drop off.

Does your sand get tossed up into the air so that you turn back through it after a bunch of the sliding turns in the same area?
I find my local sand often "works" over time and after say 25-50 sliding turns in an small area I need to move over on the beach or the sand gets tossed up high enough in the air that I run through a lot of it falling back down on the other side of the turn.

BeamerBob - 19-5-2014 at 12:24 AM

This sand really doesn't dig up much. You really just leave scuffs on it instead of tracks.

3shot - 19-5-2014 at 04:16 AM

Agree with Bob. Just scuffs is all that's left behind. You can see the scuffs being laid down in the second video a bit. My term "slingin' sand" was just an expression.:D

A perfect snapshot of the kiting

AudereEng - 19-5-2014 at 10:48 AM

I have clay in the sand - most of the area I use has large sandstone bluffs made from really soft rock filled with clay.
The sand + clay works into sandy pellets after it gets turned on for a while.
I kind of looks like someone tossed a lot of wood stove pellets on the beach in these funny circles.
After a while they seem to partially stick to the tires and get tossed into the air.

Your area also looks much more open looking area past the dune so you probably also get more on/off shore wind?
Due to the buffs I get 95+% down the beach wind.
The video of downwind skidding turns is my normal everyday buggy experience.

I also get washboards 10% of the time with up to 1" peak to trough patterns not at the waters edge or the top side but mid way.
It works best to fly across these really fast so you kind of skip across them which makes a very loud sound.

Really cool that "slinging sand" is just a phrase and that your beach is flat
