what kind of line would you use for the parts that are "permanently" attached to the handles?

My Ozone handles looks like they're using 4 or 5mm braided spectra or dyneema...amsteel ? for the power lines and 3mm spectra/dyneema for the brakes.
5mm Braided Spectra seems to have a breaking strength of around 2000kg - so plenty of reserve for a knot or two!!! If you could pick up some double
braid 3mm & 4mm in spectra from the local marine shop, that should be plenty. Any of the kite suppliers should be able to tell you exactly what
you need too....

Sent you a u2u. I'll take care of that for you..

As long as the handles lead line is strong enough...it does not have to be Spectra/Dyneema. Regular woven over core NYLON climbing accessory
'cordage'(available at REI or Eastern Mountain -off a spool) of 5mm is strong enough. I use this on my home made handles.
Try 5mm PMI brand utility cord that REI sells by the foot(can order online) Breaking strength is roughly 500 lb at least.
Even their 3mm PMI is 400 lb breaking strength but this is Borderline for strength... as it should probably be stronger than power line(360- 440lb BS
typically).
The Spectra's superior strength would allow you to go a smaller mm if you like less bulbous knot to tie flying line onto.

My stock pl and hq leaders are just braided soft core marine rope. They're not spectra/dyneema. Like you said, I think just about any low stretch
braided leaders would do for that size kite.

THank you riff clown.
The conversion is out though. Mom had been "probing" dad for his thoughts and it turned out to be a bad idea.
