Power Kite Forum

one decade later

Bladerunner - 9-7-2014 at 03:50 PM

I was answering some questions in the park today and realized that I started in this sport a decade ago.

The 1st year and a bit I struggled trying to get going on the water. I had tons of kite time but zero board skills. I was ready to toss it all in when I discovered kiting with blades and snow skis. Then buggy and ATB. I am SO GLAD I found land kiting and the PKF Family !

I hope I can get 2 more decades in before the old body gives out. :borg:

Well happy anniversary Ken! Maybe you should honor your kites with the traditional 10 year gift of tin/aluminum, I'm sure you got some cans laying around! Makes me feel like I have so much more to learn. Here's to that next 20!

Thanks for all the great advice Ken and hoping for many good years ahead for you.

Happy 10 years Ken! I'd love to learn the whole snow side of the sport.

How fast have you been buggyman? I know my nerves will eventually slow me down.

Bladerunner - 11-7-2014 at 03:34 PM

Copied from Bugymangp's post in the fractured rib thread.

back then i was all about how fast i can go. my best is 54mph. i`ll never see that again

Just got in from a sweet session with some hooj jumps on the 18m Phanny. Amazing since the wind sensor said it was only 11kts? Boy I will hate having to stop jumping at some point. It is what really drew me to the sport.

 Old f**** rule! (fill in ***** as needed)

Keep on riding Ken!

Just a couple of weeks ago I was at Lake Erie and it was doming so I suspected higher altitude wind and threw on big line extensions to have a 45m line set and took off surfing up and down the shore all day. Every time I surfed near kites on the beach I'd see them run to launch only to watch them all struggle and fall on the water - then I'd pop a little jump and wave just to rub it in.
Anyway a few days later I'm talking to a friend that attended a rate payers party and he was talking to another local that kite boards further up the beach that I cruised past at some point. My friend tells me this guy said "a nice day the other day but not much wind at all but one guy that was out riding all day when nobody else could keep a kite in the air .... and he was some really old guy!"

yup "Old f**** rule!"

BeamerBob - 17-7-2014 at 07:18 AM

More power to the really old guys!

Mark, I can't imagine you looking like a really old guy unless the other person was 10.
