help think i destroyed my trampa

trickyrickxx - 22-7-2014 at 01:21 PM

I have just cut out some slots on my trampa which r under my feet the problem is its made it so flexible I am scared if I jump on it I will break it. Is there any way to make it more stiff or have I destroyed it. Thanks rick

wow that doesnt look like a good idea...id say 1/8-1/16 aluminum sheet underneath remove bindings and handle use longer hardware and remount is your only option...or new deck

It will flex like crazy but it will never break

trickyrickxx - 22-7-2014 at 01:51 PM

I just did a little test jump and heard a crack. Looks like I did my holes a little to close to the edge but couldn't find any info on how far away from the edge to do them. I was a very expensive mistake don't think I am gonna cut another board and would suggest that if u r thinking of doing it don't unless u know what u r doing

Those decks are truly impressive. I stood on a board (about 240# at the time) that had been cut down to only about 2"-3" inches in the center. I jumped up and down and it just flexed to the ground but did not break. Adam is right on this one .. dont break.

But with that said dont push your luck any more by putting your holes and cuts so close together. Thats just begging for trouble. If you want to lighten it up take out chunks from the sides so the center keeps strength. The way you have the holes and then the slit coming right up to the holes does not leave you much surface for strength.

Look at it like this. You can cut that board down to the width of the truck mounting holes, but keep that width from tip to tip. Picture a board only about 3" wide :) You would be ok with that. Obviously you need some width for your feet but everything else can go. You cut through the center so now be careful with anymore cuts.

Just as a thought if I cut the thin bits at the edge of the board is it likely that any of the other gaps will crack . just trying to salvage something

I think the rule with trampa was no less than 10cm in the middle if you cut them down

PHREERIDER - 22-7-2014 at 03:21 PM

thats gonna get sloppy 10-20hours flex points will develop in the thinnest sections, won't really "break" but flex til failure and tear slowly.

DON"T RIDE TIL U FIX IT !

so its definitely not good, BUT! to salvage... bolt on a maple lam section, old cheap skateboard or flooring, underneath. might as well cover whole bottom and closest to the trucks as possible .

may add serious pop so may be a blessing! it'll be fine , you;ll ride and eventually get another

Dang. That left almost nothing under your heals where maximum pressure is on the board. This is the kind of thing to start out small with and work your way to your desired effect. I don't think it was so logical to make the weakest part of the board where it has the most stress.

carltb - 22-7-2014 at 03:24 PM

abkayak is right you need to bolt a sheet of aluminium to the underside of the board to stiffen it up. well spaced holes are ok (holypro) but slots don't work to well!! if it was me I would chop it to the shape that I want then have the metal cut to that shape then use all the exsisting bolt holes (trucks, bindings, handle) to secure it to the board

Couldn't you epoxy the plugs back in? Or would the epoxy be too stiff/brittle?

WELDNGOD - 22-7-2014 at 03:52 PM

Trampas aren't epoxy/carbon or glass , so that won't work, too brittle. Not good for sure. But salvageable...

trickyrickxx - 22-7-2014 at 11:19 PM

Thanks for all of the advice guys looks like I got to get a old skate board and some longer bolts as I ain't to sure where to get aluminium round here or how expensive it is.

Some of them are brave I don't think I will be cutting my next one up . I think I will have to buy a new one as it won't feel like a trampa after I have fixed so looks like I have better start saving lol

abkayak - 23-7-2014 at 06:10 AM

85 pages of deck porn...i have 4 boards but now feel so inadequate

trickyrickxx - 23-7-2014 at 07:44 AM

Think I am gonna stick to stickers and paint to pimp my board in future this has made me scared lol

B-Roc - 23-7-2014 at 11:19 AM

Was that a brand new board? :o Real shame you didn't know of the Pimped Boards thread before you started cutting. :( That's one to grow on.

trickyrickxx - 23-7-2014 at 11:38 AM

No luckily I started with a second hand deck but before I started the board was flexible but didn't have any pop does this happen as tramps get old as the pop was very minimal. Thanks

WELDNGOD - 23-7-2014 at 05:55 PM

How many Ply is it?

Bladerunner - 23-7-2014 at 08:21 PM

I wonder if this stiffener from the other thread might work? http://www.trampaboards.com/12ply-flex-bridge--stiffen-your-...

trickyrickxx - 23-7-2014 at 11:27 PM

I looked at this but I think it is quite small so won't go to the kickers where most of the flex now seems to be think I am going for a holy pro I won't need to cut it up then lol. Has anyone used a holy pro if so are they any better than a normal trampa also does the board have a bit of a camber to it as I looked at one picture and it looks like the board was leaning back a little. Thanks rick
