Asphalt run

ssayre - 10-8-2014 at 05:05 AM

Had a great session on Saturday. I was struggling on the grass so I took to the street. This is a connecting street between a couple buildings so it doesn't have normal traffic on it. I'm going to have think about adding a rear view mirror.

Looks good bro! I love hard surfaces. Never did the highway though. Heck, you shoulda just made a turn at the intersection and flew on to the corner market for some milk and bread

Glad you got some wing time.

The corner market was too far upwind :D

Asphalt is great, but pad up. That stuff will eat you up quickly....

What cheezy said! Rolling resistance is low, but the amazing traction in the turns can cause the "grippy flippy's". I noticed you turned on the grass mostly, which is a smart move. When you get used to flying with strop/harness, your arms won't get so tired, though the side pull on a bigger kite when the wind comes up causes me to groan, even hooked in! Fun spot, don't let the fun police catch you!

Looks like an awesome spot Sean. Wishing I had time to get out and have some seat time.

Here is a write up from a day the east coast guys had at an old airstrip. Brooklyn's Floyd Bennett Field.

Do you guys still use the airfield? That would be a blast! The good thing about my strip of asphalt is it will be maintained and snowplowed which might allow for some winter runs. I envision icy spots and all sorts of hazards in the winter. Should be fun.

@soliver: Yeah, it was nice to get out. We have had no wind lately, and I wasn't expecting much yesterday. It would have been a slow tiring day if I stayed in the grass. I wasn't sure if I would get chased off using the street, but it seems most of the authorities have warmed up to me at that spot. I'm not going to push my luck though. At one point a bus was behind me and I didn't know it until I turned. It was Ok though because I was going the speed limit.

And yes, I do need some pads for asphalt. That's why I wasn't hooked in. I didn't want to take any chances on road rash.

Road trip with the bug has crossed my mind MANY times but I'm not enough of a rebel to do it.

"Yes officer, I do know how fast I was going. No officer, I haven't been drinking" hehehe
