Dumb Tethered Kiting Video.....

erratic winds - 26-8-2014 at 04:17 PM

I'm not linking it, sorry.

It's making the rounds, you might have already seen it.

My mind is utterly and totally blown that 3 of the best riders in the entire world would do something so stupid.

These 3 ?world? champions were lucky to not end their careers....

What do you think? I think I've moved from wanting a beer with Youri, Nick, & Kevin to wanting to slap them upside their heads.

Can tethered kiting be done safely?

Googling "2up1down vimeo" will turn up the video.

Hard to judge/discuss without seeing it, though I understand the desire not to want to propogate it.

Falls under the category of "people are going to do what people are going to do"/"You know the risks.... Go With God" category for me.

Plenty of silly/reckless in the world to go around. The caveat at the beginning of the video won't stop the truly determined thrillseekers looking to do themselves harm, especially in less than perfect winds.

Googling "crazy" restricted to this site will find plenty of examples including "roof climbers" who didn't receive a lot of criticism.

ATB,
Sam

i think jesse richman took it to the limits. 700+feet

"requiring a parachute as back up"...safety has already left the room some time ago. no

Absolutely disgraceful. What kind of example does this set. Not a pair of board shorts between them.
Joking aside, they made an error using what looked like 6"" to 8"" tow rope. The tow line should never exceed the rated poundage of the flying lines for good reason. Trust me on this.

I don't really have a problem with this. Is it the smartest thing to do.... no. Is it more dangerous than guys like these regularly taking a 9m out in 30+mph days to do megaloops.... I doubt it and its certainly no more dangerous (in terms of lethal consequences) than all the soaring you see done in the mountains during the winter.

PHREERIDER - 27-8-2014 at 06:53 AM

now that i watched that vid ...a little disenchanted by the pros....the fact they "could" do it might have been better regulated by the wisdom of "should " they do it.

stunts are cool with calculated risk by pros , but at some point some one is gonna pay the bill on it maybe with there life..carelessness at the top may set back the whole industry and perception of the public. not what i want. is that what BEST wants? it has driven me NOT to want best .

Well guess i am a little slow on the uptake with this one- i would not consider it tethered kiting- i always think of tethered kiting as being attached to earth or a non movable attachment point. I agree with most maybe not the smartest but i dont think it is completely stupid- I would try it

The following video features stunts performed by professionals under the supervision of professionals. Accordingly the producers must that no one attempt to recreate or re-enact any stunt or activity performed in this video.

Seriously? They boost higher than that, I'm sure. Pros with mad skills doing stunts... How can you hate on that?

I'm with Clint... A mans got to know his limitations.

Windy Heap - 28-8-2014 at 10:38 AM

I guess it comes down to, like a mountain climber ascending or rappelling via rope / brakes,

"do you trust your gear"...............the rest is opinion for armchair quarterbacking about image.
