Quadrifoil XXXL with lines and handles $225

speleopower - 1-9-2014 at 08:20 PM

I would like to sell one of my Quadrifoil XXXL kites with Quadrifoil handles and Quadrifoil Powerline lines. The lines I believe are 300 lbs tops and 150 lbs brakes.
The kite is in excellent condition and flies like a dream. There is some very minor stain and wear on the kite but overall it is in very very very good condition. You will not find many in this condition. I have owned it for quite a long time. It is my back up XXXL but it has sat for quite sometime. I just do not fly kites very much anymore and would like to see someone use it.
$225 includes the kite, lines, handles and shipping in the US.
I can post other pictures if needed.

Enlighten us newer kiters. Is this a normal fb? Is it closed or open cell? I couldn't find much on the web.

PHREERIDER - 2-9-2014 at 01:43 PM

a champions FB! . crazy lift and power in just about any breeze at all.

it was the blade before there was a blade.

the kitesurfer version were closed cell i think.

- 1986 Ted manufactures the Sparless Stunter
- original Quadrifoil 4 line kite made from 2 Sparless stunters sewn together (not sure where I heard that from)

- Quadrifoil Classic - sold in sizes 1 though 5 (in sq m). Available up until mid to late 90s? I don't think they were called the 'Classic' until sometime later, I think after the C series was available. Interesting trivia - the Quadrifoil 4m was used in an expedition to ski across Greenland, and the Q series were used in a similar trip to the South Pole

- at some point here Ted is no longer involved in the Quadrifoil Company or the design of the kites. The company and or the brand name is sold to Active People?

- (around 1996) Quadrfoil Competition, available as C1 2.5m, C2 4m & C3 5.5m. Very sweet race kites - well worth getting hold of if you can find one.

- Quadrifoil Competition X, available as XS 2.28m, XM 3.48m, XL 4.92m, XXL 7.09m & XXL 9.66m
XXL and XXXL were Icarex, the rest were Chikara Nylon
- designed by Alain Hoffer of Active People in France

- Quadfoil Q2000 series, based on X series (?) but lower aspect ratio, intermediate traction kites. Q2002 'Qusic' 1.5m, Q2003 'Qebra' 3m, Q2004 'Qrazy' 4m, Q2005 'Qing' 5.84m, Q2007 'Qing' 7m. The 'Q' names referred to the colorful designs on the foil.

- Quadrifoil X Surfer. Water relaunchable foil kites for kite surfing.
PRO (31gr Ripstop Polyester):
XM-Surfer 3.18m
XL-Surfer 4.34m
XXL-Surfer 6.23m
XXXL-Surfer 8.52m

NYLON (42gr Ripstop Nylon):
XS-Surfer 2.08m
XM-Surfer 3.18m
XL-Surfer 4.34m
XXL-Surfer 6.23m

Wow, thanks for the info. I was guessing from Speleo's quiver and the fact he had this as a back up, that they were something special.

PHREERIDER - 2-9-2014 at 03:22 PM

speleo is title holder, vintage at its best

speleopower - 2-9-2014 at 04:31 PM

Phreerider has it correct. The Quadrifoil Competition XXXL is the king of power to weight to size of all power kites in my opinion. Next up would be the Blade series. The Blades are almost but not 100% as nice as the Quadrifoil Competition kites.
I have owned and wore out several of the Competition X kites in the day. Vintage or not the Competition X kites are still top for power.
Price is firm at $350 shipped in the US.

Someone buy it as I need jetski parts. My friends riding in Daytona http://youtu.be/ZU1Bf0sWn9Y

I think the Competition X kites are open cell fixed bridle and the KiteSurfer X kites are closed cell fixed bridle. The XXXL is only 9.66m but it is amazing.

EDIT Here is a spec sheet

i still have 2 set of q2000`s its my go to kites. love them. the 2004 is the first kite i pull out of the bag i had the x`s but didnt like the lift the ymade and sold them off

stephdip - 3-9-2014 at 11:03 AM

that is correct, the X series is open cell, and the surf version is closed cell.
i still have my special edition XM in all mango color.
awesome kite to have... would never sell it have had this kite for what must be like almost 20 years now and it's still in brand new condition, well other than a small blood stain caused by a hard landing after being launched :) that was in my younger stupid years where it was fun to see in how much win i could fly in....

fantastic kite

speleopower - 4-9-2014 at 08:34 PM

I would say the Competition XXXL would be roughly equal to a 14-16 inflatable. But usable in much lighter winds and is very stable and very predictable in stronger winds.
For a long time I only had a XL and a XXXL. The XXXL is for sure a goto kite in light winds.
Someone buy it before it gets put back into the closet for another 10years.

speleopower - 6-9-2014 at 01:51 PM

How about $300 shipped in the US? I really do want to sell the kite as I do not want to keep it anylonger.

Someone must be looking for a light wind kite. If you have those days when the leaves just rustle and then move a bit more this kite will get you moving. I would have less than half the summer kiting days without my XXXL.

speleopower - 14-9-2014 at 11:04 AM

No takers yet? Make me an offer.

speleopower - 21-9-2014 at 04:19 PM

$250??? It's a great kite on the water if you don't crash or on land if you don't crash. It's a fun beast of a kite.

rofer - 21-9-2014 at 04:58 PM

This looks like an incredible deal, but I'm pretty sure there's too much overlap with this and my 8m Century II. If I didn't own that I would immediately buy this.

speleopower - 31-10-2014 at 09:11 PM

Price drop to $225
