If anyone is interested a group of us will be getting together for an informal Alvord Buggy Expo or as I like to call Alvord Buggy Experience On the
weekend of Oct 10. Some of us will be arriving mid week on the 8th or 9th and staying thru Mon Oct.13.
Alvord dry lakebed is around 100 miles south of Burns Oregon. It is over 80 sq. miles of dry lakebed most of the time. This is on BLM land and is pack
in pack out of all supplies and garbage.
Most of us camp on the lakebed but there is a motel about 7 miles away in Fields. There is a private hotspring by the lakebed that you can visit for a
cost.($5)last year.
If your interested in attending post here or pm me.buggeyed - 8-9-2014 at 10:07 PM

I hope there's enough space for everyone out there :D Just over 2 weeks to go I'm looking forward to being out on Alvord again!Morrie Williams - 23-9-2014 at 07:28 AM
On September 15th, long time friend Dave Lord passed away peacefully and quickly after a day of landsailing at Alvord. He left this world as he lived
it enjoying the things he liked to do. We'll miss him terribly. bigkid - 23-9-2014 at 07:42 AM
Sorry to hear about Dave, one guy who was one of the best to argue with about things related to kites, wind and what ever else. Glad he was able to
end things on a great place as Alvord. BeamerBob - 27-9-2014 at 07:29 PM
Things just fell in place nicely for my son Jared and I to make it. Days aren't certain yet but it looks good to make it at this point.kitemaker4 - 27-9-2014 at 08:26 PM
Wish I was closer, I would join yall. Have a great time.

A couple of us from Colorado will be there. We were there in July and quite taken with this playa. It will be quite a change from the 101 degrees we
experienced. Hopefully the wind will be better. buggeyed - 27-9-2014 at 11:45 PM
Fall usually brings the best winds. Look forward to seeing you there.BeamerBob - 28-9-2014 at 08:46 AM
I've searched with no success. Is there a post showing the destination at Alvord and recommended route to get there?Morrie Williams - 28-9-2014 at 10:09 AM
I've searched with no success. Is there a post showing the destination at Alvord and recommended route to get there?
Here is some info from a post I did:
" The GOOD approach Josh is talking about to the north goes by Karl's driveway (Karl passed away a few years back). There is or was a big mailbox on
the main road to mark it. The mail box is at N 42.520117°, W 118.531283°.
The BAD approach comes down past the spring on the hill. It's about a mile or so south of the good approach. We had to go out that approach one year
when we had 2" of water on the lake due to rain storm. It was a real adventure!
Here's the location we camped at a few years back N 42.498950°, W 118.529650°. FYI elevation is 4,042 feet. "
Last year we set up camp just south of the approach to the south right on the lakebed. buggeyed - 6-10-2014 at 02:48 PM
Looks like most of us will be arriving on the lakebed sometime Thurs. and staying until Sun.kiteballoon - 7-10-2014 at 11:18 AM
SO SO jealous of you all getting to ride out there this time of year. I hope the weather and wind are just perfect! I cannot wait to return to the
desert, and the scale of this dry lake sounds mindblowing.utahtami - 7-10-2014 at 01:58 PM
So far it has been the Alvord Camping Trip. Three of us (from Colorado and San Diego) have been here since Saturday with only enough wind to static
fly by moonlight. Ed did some kiteboarding but didn't get very far. It is still remarkably beautiful.
Just sayin: don't forget to bring some wind!
Cheers,

What a great weekend!! With great company!! We arrived Thurs. afternoon and within a few hours the wind came up and we rode till dark. Fri was a copy
of Thurs. ,we even got in a bit of night flying with lights. Sat. was gusting from 0 to 28 mph.most of the day. Sun had nice smooth winds around 15mph
from the sw.Four days of great buggying.
Oh and did I mention the hot springs. If you didn't make it get it on your agenda for next year!BigMikesKites - 15-10-2014 at 06:34 AM
