Tuning Gen IV and V 3m/5m beamers.

Windy Heap - 12-9-2014 at 07:53 AM

I just bought some EXCELLENT condition kites (Beamer 5m Gen IV, and 3m Beamer Gen V.)

Both used lovingly gentle with history of past PKF members, and NCBowHunter, your folding technique is stellar and crisp.

Yes East Coast guys will get a laugh, as I did taste and sample, both 5m and 3m kite bags contents of dusty grains of happy sand, many memories in those grains!

A bit less salty than Washington Oregon Sand, but refined with a nice pallet of east coast sophistication.

grins.

Hey guys, on both 5m/3m kites, where do you normally rig the brake lines?

Brake bridle has 5 knots, including tail end. I tend to like more brakes, so maybe middle knot, or one in closer to the kite?

I'm Picking the PKF braintrust on Beamers.

I'll most likely start in the middle then fly and Tune, but would rather rig lines at home and spend more time flying and less time FidlleFarting around on a beach.

Pretty drastic tuning adjustablility, of 5 knots spread out 2.5-3" over almost 18" total length.

Beamer Tuning, suggestions?

I think I used to have both my beamer IV's hooked one knot from the end on the brakes. Reverse launching will soon tell you if you have enough brake tension or not.

When that was MY Beamer  .... I remember liking the brakes hooked on the 3rd or 4th knot from the end, and like you, I like a little brake line bias (except on my RIIs)

Enjoy, ...I always loved the Graphics on the 3m Beamer V

Dirty Mary Crazy Larry..............if you remember that film.

grins. yeah baby how I'm going to fly the new beamers and vipers.

I've laid out that 5m and 3m, just to show friends and neighbors.

5m measures almost 14' across.

yes sweetness.

6.8 viper just turns a bit too slow sluggish, not a Porsche, more like a big block 'Cuda muscle car, 2.6 viper spins on it's center of axis. 3.9 viper I've only had 2-3 flights on with brand new lines.

5 meter beamer... thanks for the prior love joy on the foil. it's gone to a good home.

Is it politically correct to fly it naked if you hook in to the right spot?

Hellll it's Oregon, I'll put on my wool beany cap and hug a tree. 'twill be okay then.

new 5 meter beamer, 2 different kite festivals in the next 3 weeks.

yes.

pics or no it didn't happen.

stay tuned.

happy dance.
