Spanish kitesurfer in Santa Cruz

KILLO - 24-9-2014 at 12:10 AM

Dear team,

I am writing from Santander, north shore of Spain. I have to go to Santa Cruz for a scientific collaboration from October to Deceber. I'm so exited because as much as i know the area has amazing waves for surfing and fall is the season to go, but what about kiting, what sizes do you use there during these months? There is something important that you need to know before kiting, local laws etc???

The place I will have to work is very close to Streamer Line, it could be blessing kite and surfing this spot... Do the winds and the locals allow it???

Apart from that, althougth i know that this is not the place, I will need housing... and I'm realizing that it's hard to find something in the area... So, if anybody can help me with this, I will really apreciate...

See you out there, keep kite-surfing...

Hey killo,
I'm not from Santa cruz, but farther north. But I do know a little about it.
Steamer Lane is NOT a kite spot. Only surfing. It is a point break right in town. For Kitesurfing, head up the coast 15 minute drive to Waddel creek. It will be epic in the the early part of your stay. You will have an insane time there!
As far as housing goes... Good luck. It's very expensive there.
Ciao

We were just there visiting cousins earlier this month. Make sure you check out the Surf museum. There are a lot of great places to surf all along the area there. Have a great safe time.

Killo,
I forgot to mention... Scott creek. It's even better than Wadell. I'm comfortable saying that here because most people on this forum are not wave riders.
Scott Creek is 5 minutes south of Wadell, so it's about 10 minutes north of Santa Cruz. The wind isn't usually quite as good, but when there is swell, the wave is better.
Have fun when you are there.

Definetively one of the best spots i have ever seen... good lefts and better rights in the same spot...

I dont know if I'll be able to work with such waves... I've just asked for a car to my institution and they allow me to rent one... this will improve my stay there for sure...

Thanks again Jim, it is good to know the area before you go...
