Revamping the Tandem *VIDEO*

I recently decided that I wanted my XR Frankenbuggy to be a complete second buggy so I could have A. One buggy on barrows and one on midis, B. One smaller lightweight buggy and one big heavy monster buggy and C. A buggy that broke down more easily and would fit INSIDE my kitemobile if needed.... All that being said, I bought a new front fork, and all the necessary accompanying bits that were needed for this endeavor (many thanks to Van, BigKid, and Chris at HQ for your contributions) and I now have the VTT Stinger hybrid buggy and a PL XR+ with the VTT rail kit. WUHOO! But that creates the problem of how to work the Tandem set up.

You may remember my previous set up was just elongated downtube with foot pegs and the hitch built in:

So I cut about 3" of the hitch end off of the old tandem downtube and welded up this doodad... I made it such that it would be easy to put on and take off so that I wouldn't have to work too hard to to remove the new tandem hitch in order to use the XR. You can see that I made it so it only takes 1 wing nut per u bolt since the other end is buried in the square tube. I might change the wing nuts to nylocks because I found when I used it yesterday that the hand tightened wing nuts will come loose as they rattle over rough terrain or I might be able to resolve that by using a pair of pliers on the wing nuts.

And here it is all together. I'm still using the old hitch that I made for the old set up, but I have to take it off to put the bug on the kitemobile ... PITA... I'm planning on reworking that to something simpler that can stay on in transit.

With family in town for Thanksgiving, we went to the park for rides, but the wind didn't cooperate but for a couple rides with a couple of the girls... GoPros were rolling so vids are to come

Very cool.
I'm desperate to do something similar for my nephews and nieces before they become too old and lose interest.

Ok... fiddled around with iMovie last night and put together this one... the wind was a little less than desirable, and the borrowed GoPro didn't seem to want to continue to stand up strait , but I made do with the little useable footage I had.

enjoy: Post-Turkey Tandem

Why not put a trailer ball and reciever on there?

Good question, and I did consider that, however...

A. I could not find one that I deemed small enough for the job,... they all seemed excessive and too bulky for the task. Not to mention they would likely severely impede how my buggy mounts on my car.

B. A few pieces of well organized hardware and welded steel does the trick at a fraction of the cost... and I'm a tightwad.
