Hope to see you there. Who else have you heard from?

BeamerBob - 7-12-2014 at 08:25 AM

Isn't that blowing straight down the beach? Enough angle for some speedy runs?

riffclown - 7-12-2014 at 08:30 AM

It is straight dow the beach.. Is a down-winder type of day .. We replace the "walk of shame" with a "ride of fame" Buggying downwind is better than not buggying at all right?

WELDNGOD - 7-12-2014 at 08:55 AM

Chris is asleep. And I don't have time to go across the river and get him. So it will be just the wife and I. How about 3shot?

riffclown - 7-12-2014 at 09:28 AM

He's a no-go for today.. Contacted him yesterday..

Extreme wind!! It was all I could do not being blown off the bridge today. Any footage?

WELDNGOD - 7-12-2014 at 03:37 PM

yeah I gotta go through it . It was nukin' out there today.

riffclown - 7-12-2014 at 03:48 PM

YEah got spanked by the 2M Hornet with a bridle malfunction.. It's already repaired and took me a bit to de-tangle the bird's nest of flying lines. It wasn't as bad as I thought.. Just had to undo the bridles a bit to get them working again.. It was definitely a downwinder day and I got 22MPH on my GPS, Would have probably gone even faster on the second run but saw no need for you to wait on me while I got a different kite out.. Thanks again for sharing your spot WG..

It was so nuking today, we could have flown the kite bags.

WELDNGOD - 7-12-2014 at 04:10 PM

I got 27.9mph on a 1.5 m buster soulfly. And a downwinder at that.

WELDNGOD - 7-12-2014 at 04:11 PM

And yeah ,you could park n ride a kite bag today.

riffclown - 7-12-2014 at 04:11 PM

How does the power compare of the 1.5 Soulfly to the 1.7 Sting? More, same, or less?

I would have to say they are about the same. They both can create a good amount of power in high winds, but you gotta work 'em. They can cover a lot of window really quick. Dollar for dollar ,the PKD wins though.

Thanks for sharing~!

AudereEng - 8-12-2014 at 09:20 PM

With wind like this what kind of swells do you get on the beach?

riffclown - 8-12-2014 at 09:39 PM

Mostly chop but the sea foam was blowing across the beach like you wouldn't believe. The wind kept low tide from being truly low but there was a good strip of beach to work with.

12/6 HIGH WIND ALERT (Helmet Video)

Video Corrected above.. Wind picked up while we were making the first run.. I landed using the Kite Killers as I was already a little overpowered with the 2M when we started..

It surprised me even more by catching the brake bridles on the power lines and pulled me off my feet before the second run. I opted out since my lines looked like a bird's nest and needed to be de-tangled. I didn't want to hike back to the truck for a second line set and have WG waiting on me for the next run.. Only hurt was my pride and ego but I have plenty of that to spare so no damage.. Little Kites and High winds are a great combination but still deserve respect.. Even more than when confident enough to fly bigger.. Don't let experience with big kite make you forget how much power a little kite can have..

rtz - 12-12-2014 at 09:33 PM

I'd get a small cheap kite(1.5, 1.7) for backup to the 2m kite.

riffclown - 13-12-2014 at 07:00 AM

Agreed. Didn't want to fly my Symphony and the hornet was the smallest I had beyond that.. This was the first time I ever felt hesitant about flying a 2M.. BUT, as said above.. I could have probably flown the bag it came in and been fine.. Winds were indeed really whipping that day.

WELDNGOD - 13-12-2014 at 01:08 PM

You need to use Vimeo Bro. Youtube is crap. And they don't harass you about copyright bs when you put a song to it. I got that digger you took on video. You roll pretty good for an old guy! LOL You wanna see it?

riffclown - 13-12-2014 at 01:57 PM

No Thanks, I've got a pretty good shot of it myself.. considering posting it as to how not to launch in high winds. First launch was much better.. Couldn't scud but was able to hike out of it no issues.. I don't think I would have dumped if the brakes hadn't been caught.. It's a little embarrassing but you know,, no injuries because I trusted the killers to do their job and rolled with the impact.. Only real bump from the day was where my forks caught my hand when we loading my buggy over to your truck..

All in all it was a great day..
