I have seen few nice DIYs on a budged .... they work well ... PVC piping is so easy to work with .,,,

I've tried the DYI route route. Had some success but PVC, not good in real cold.

We just picked up Wizmount Packs. The seem a little on the pricey side and on the surface I would agree. What you're really paying for is the back plate. The back plate really secures things amazingly well. I would n't have believed it if I didn't try it first hand.

I made my own for windsurfing. Used an old style windsurf harness and a tube batten. The wacky noodle was used to make it float in case it came out of the harness in a wipe out. Haven't tried it on land yet.

How do these things work with a windsurfing sale when you change position like in tacks? DO you have to duck or move any differently?

Biggest problem I've had with any of them is forgetting I have it on a whacking the cam on stuff (and people). :o

Good idea with the float.

Carbon or FG rods would probably work better. Probably important to have a break-away too.

If one had the cash to spare, it would be fun to experiment with Line-Loc purely from a safety standpoint.

I bit the bullet and bought one a few months ago. Like Feyd said, a little pricey but well made. I'm still getting a feel for the best position to have it while skiing. I really like the second person point of view like someone is following with a camera. Like mentioned before, its really easy to forget its there and whack something or someone with it. So far I like it, just need more experimenting.

Tacks and jibes are no problem. I showed a tack about the middle of the video, for ex. What is a problem is when I start out the sail can come into contact with the camera and changes its orientation. You might have noticed at the start how long it took me to get started. I also reached back to try to make sure the camera was facing the right direction. (This has messed me up more than once.) Of course, these's a simple solution - just upphual the sail. Also rough water can be a problem because the camera may bounce around, but I improved that by shortening the batten.

Yeah, I was thinking that ski / snowboard / landboard mount with a 24" pipe holding it off a bit would be pretty legit. I'll mess around with that in the next few weeks and see how it shakes out. Other solution (for skiing and land boarding and bugging, anyway) is a GoPro on a tripod with a working remote. Waiting to hear back from GoPro on the remote RMA then maybe I'll post a slightly less-boring video. If not? Wiz mount here I come :)
