Kitewheeling - Kite buggying on One wheel

For those who have never seen Kitewheeling in action ck the videos on http://www.electricwheel.co/ or this video https://vimeo.com/94751101 . The self-balancing Solowheel makes it much easier to ride than just standing on a free wheel uni and the ability to accelerate during a lull in the wind allows you to Kitewheel when others cannot even keep their kites in the air reliably.

I think there should be a Kitewheeling section on the forum but at the moment the number of Kitewheelers in the world is just me. I expect others will follow my lead eventually and a separate listing would make it easier to collect questions and answers and experiences on Kitewheeling in one place rather than scattered among the "other kite traction sports". So moderator, if it makes sense, please create a new Kitewheeling section.

It's hard to tell in the video, is the kite really pulling you or are you mostly just following the kite on your solowheel?
As I mentioned in your other thread, I'm thinking about getting a BC wheel to kite with and I'm wondering how well it'd actually work. Never expected to have the chance to ask someone who's tried something similar.

imo...kiting on that bc wheel has to be the worst idea i've heard this morning

I've not done it on a BC wheel, but did do it on my unicycle at one point (which led to far far too much forced pedaling). You can definitely edge and get going, though I found it too awkward/I'm too uncoordinated to manage it, without somewhere softer to land / less gusty inland winds.

Yeah, I figured all the peddling would make a unicycle pretty unfeasible.
Ideally I'd like to get a nice trials BC wheel like this guy has:

Unfortunately, BC wheels seem kind of hard to find.

Rofer I did briefly considering building up a freewheel hub wheel for trying it out on, as I already own the unicycle and am used to building wheels, but haven't gotten to the point of doing so. BC Wheel seems the better idea, though I'd opt for being able to swap in pegs over the drop foot holders, for better edging ability

Not yet. I looked into getting one and found it wasn't immediately clear where to get a good BC wheel that would work for this.

Then it started snowing and I've been able to finally use my snowboard. I definitely still like the idea though and would love to hear where you go with it if you beat me to trying it.

I'm torn on the 20" or 24"BMX wheel for building it up, as we may well get a bit more speed than the average BC Wheel rider. Definitely building up a 48 hole BMX front wheel with 14mm axle. I've been wanting one and wanting to avoid the making foot plates, but am going to suck it up and get to making them this weekend. I'm thinking 4x4 angle iron, grip tape on the foot bed, and then cutting the part running parallel to the wheel with 45 degree angles, to reduce weight some.

http://www.unicyclist.com/forums/showthread.php?t=59387 will be the shape of the foot plates. Once I figure out the wheel size, I'll get the rim and such figured out

Let me know if you have any opinions/advice on it. I'll get pictures up when I'm done
