which kite to buy

scottychopper - 10-1-2007 at 07:59 AM

Im quite new to power kiting, as yet i dont have my own kite. i've been using my friends, i learnt the basics on a flexifoil sting 1.8 and have been using his blade 4 4.9. I now want to get my own kite but cant afford a new blade at the min. I want a kite with good lift that is around the 3-5 meter mark, i've been looking at the HQ beamer 3.6 and 5.5, the PKD Brooza in similar sizes, Radsail pro 4m and i also saw a blade 3 3m. which kite would be best for recreational kiting, jumping etc? any suggestions welcome

I flew Beamer and Blade and if you want jumping, Blade would be my choice. I think I saw some Blade 3s on ebay recently.

Are you in the US? If so, I may have a few kites for you. I'm really thinking about getting a 7m Pulse now :D

There are still form Pro Foils around for good prices (1/2. without lines but with handles) since the designer/ manufacturer Ted Dougherty is closiong shop and liquidating stock.

They are very easy to fly, smooth and stable and will only luff in the flakiest of light winds. They are lifty too; not as much as a blade but come on smoother so they don't try to yank your arms off.

I stiill have sizes 1.5 through 4.5 and Ted has 5.5's left at his site

If your were at all comfortable with the Balde IV 4.9, you will be more comfortable with the 4.5 or 5.5 Pro Foil. 3.5 won't lift you as much but will have a wider practical wind range for general kiting fun. Remember that kites in this range drop you faster than they pick you up. Even the blade 4.9

[I'm not trying to spam the forum as there is little or nothing made on these liquidations. Just a good deal for anyone on a budget]

You're right Angus. For the price, you cant go wrong with the Profoils!
