I've found myself without handles with the sale of my last foil. I had some 3/4" sch 40 conduit and some marine rope and made a set. I corked the
ends instead of using pvc caps which create a ridge. I tied a figure 8 knot inside the handles. My question is will these be strong enough? I can
get a 5' piece of sch 80 pvc at the store for 5 dollars if that is better? I've seen several people use pvc but not sure if they're using anything
special.

If I had a choice, I'd go with the schedule 80. That said, 40 in that short of a length is stronger than one thinks which I'm sure you know.
Hook em up to that 7m Nasa and give em a whirl. ssayre - 28-2-2015 at 11:43 AM
Dang it Jason, that's exactly what I was thinking. Oh well I'll give them a whirl and see what happens. I'm pretty sure the videos I've seen of
people using pvc, that they were only using standard sch 40 but I could be wrong.bobalooie57 - 28-2-2015 at 02:08 PM
I made two sets of sch 40 handles about 5 years ago and have been using them ever since without any problems. Most of the time while flying my NASA
wings, but have used them for FB foils as well. One set I added Ronstan clam cleats to the brake leaders, and can adjust the brakes on the fly. I
didn't even know they made sch 80!ssayre - 28-2-2015 at 03:36 PM
That's good to know bobalooie. I tried them today and they worked well and had a fair amount of force on them. I don't plan on using them too much
but I like using handles if I'm flying static. I plan on keeping them on the 2.5 meter since I almost never have enough wind for it in the buggy and
this way I can get some use out of the kite when I'm out and about and just in the mood to fly a kite.3shot - 28-2-2015 at 04:12 PM
There is actually a good thread about home made handles. I tried to find it with no luck, buts its in here somewhere.ssayre - 28-2-2015 at 04:38 PM
I've found a few threads on here for handles. I just wanted the bare bones basic handles. I'm not trying to save money because handles are fairly
cheap, but it's just the convenience factor of not always having to order something when you need something so basic. I've got the stuff to make
harness loop with qr similar to Steffens. I think I'm going to try that next. Tinkering is just the natural evolution of the hobby. :D3shot - 28-2-2015 at 04:48 PM
That's right.
Nothing beats home brew anyway!!markite - 3-3-2015 at 07:58 AM
I would recommend using something stronger then PVC . Those pipes can snap easily under load , breaking unevenly and hurting you with sharp edges.
Metal conduit found in electric department in home depot would make better choice. Would band but not snap . Definnetly heavier but I think much safer
