Racers,
Please remember that all racing is done with empty glasses.
Driving shotcars whilst full of alkyhol is not only dangerous, but you might spill your drink!
THAT is alcohol abuse!
We are the role-models for future generations.
Scary!

Good point Corey, safety first in all aspects of the NABX!!!!
Pablo - 18-1-2007 at 06:24 PM
So we talking hot wheels cars here or something larger, don't want to come to the party un prepared.
coreykite - 19-1-2007 at 12:21 PM
Pablo,
Shot-cars are nothing more than Hot Wheels or Matchbox cars with a shot glass glued to the top.
(I like to use the adhesive GOOP)
It's silly.
It has no greater intended meaning.
Many find them to be treasured mementos of their nabx-playa experience.
The value comes from the good times you have and the memories they create.
Like a totem, Shot-Cars become more than the object.
If you do it right.

Is there a pimp my shot car contest this yr?..aj
bugymangp - 19-1-2007 at 01:07 PM
hey aj.
how you doing dude????
hows life on the water????
pimp my shot car????
sounds good to me.
anybody else got views on this.
my idea is the winner can get a bottle of fuel for the shot
glass and pass it around to the losers. that way everybody wins!!!!!
hose-a - 19-1-2007 at 01:59 PM
Hey boys,
Sure you want to get into shot car racing ??
Fuel is pretty expensive and I would hate to waist it on burn-outs !!
Will NABX insurance cover all collition damage on the vehicle??
See you all soon....
bugymangp - 19-1-2007 at 02:16 PM
hey hose-a
pimp my shot car is not about racing.
its about who has the most pimped out shot car.
Pablo - 19-1-2007 at 06:58 PM
Ahh, good to hear, sounds like fun, I didn't want to show up with a hotwheels toting a shot glass only to find out it's somethign else.
I think I'll fit in here just fine.
coreykite - 1-2-2007 at 12:15 PM
Gang,
Here's what I have planned...
A 4' x 8' sheet of 5/8" plywood.
4 lanes, each 2" wide, made from trim strips.
One end supported on a table.
The other end on the ground, atop a blanket or comforter - To protect the shot-cars in the run-out.
I like a Le Mans style start:
Each shot-car is lined up on the table.
It is filled.
At the GO signal, the driver picks up the car, drinks the contents, then places the car at the top of the track and lets it go.
No Pushing.
If a driver is caught pushing their start, that driver is disqualified from that round and must drink another shot.
Racing continues until only one driver can stand up.
Not too many rules.
I like that we have an excuse to gather in the tent each night and have some social life in buggytown.
What do y'all think?

Is there a limit to the size of car or glass?
bugymangp - 1-2-2007 at 01:19 PM
yes
please only hot wheels or match box size cars for the
shot car race. i just talked to corey on the phone and the size of the lanes will only fit hot wheels or match box sized cars. lanes to be about 2
inches wide.
bugymangp - 1-2-2007 at 01:20 PM
i forgot to add.
only shot size(1 oz) glasses will be allowed.
Pablo - 1-2-2007 at 08:32 PM
So, ummmmm, any specs/restrictions on the car type/build?
Does it just have to be a hotwheels style car, any mods/goodies allowed being done to said cars other than mounting the shot glass?
Yeah, I'm a wee bit competitive.
jonesing4wind - 1-2-2007 at 09:50 PM
get out the ball-bearing hotwheels and WD-40!!!!
Pablo - 1-2-2007 at 10:25 PM
Nah, gonna raid the kiddlets hot wheels box, I'll bring a couple back ups just in case my main car is deemed "unacceptable"
hose-a - 2-2-2007 at 10:01 AM
Hey Corey,
I think we should also have a "pimp your shot car" event to go along with the races for those who want to show off their rides !!
I think action jackson ask for this before......
Better yet, I'm thowing down the challenge.

"...bing it on..." ? Say Again?
Yes, yes, yes.
Shot-car races.
Show-and-Shine.
Pimp-Your-Shot-car.
Nightly - In the tent.
We'll have it all!!!
NOTE: Shot-car racing requires fuel.
There is no liquor store in buggytown.
One might consider stopping in Vegas and acquiring one's favorite fuel before heading out to buggytown.
In other words... BYOB.
(with a condescending sneer towards political correctness may I add that consumption of alcohol is NOT mandatory - Just preferred)
Only Matchbox and Hot Wheel cars with one-shot glasses are allowed to race.
Show & Shine and Pimp-Your-Shot-car - BRING IT ON!!!
Now that your entertainment has been provided, please leave your room number with the concierge so you may be escorted by the arm to the various
functions.

Wicked, all set, gotta pack some real beer for the trip, then maybe pick up a little extra fuel on the way once in the states.
coreykite - 3-2-2007 at 12:11 PM
Psst... Hey You...
Over here...
Wanna tip for some side bets at the shot-car races?
I got it straight from a buddy who works at the track...
They've got a thing going about who brings the best fuel...
Blue Agave Tequila Reposado, Scotch Whiskey-Single Malts, Bushmills-Green Label, The Black Bush, like that.
They say the better their fuel - The better their cars go downhill.
So they keep trying to outdo each other.
All I know is; Man they are fast!
Hey - Don't tell anybody I told you this.
We'll clean up on the side-bets.
Your Friend,
Slick Willie
deanaoxo - 3-2-2007 at 03:11 PM
Just in case you all are wondering, we will have an official officiating.
A few ground rules have been laid out by some of the participants, so let me clarify.
Hot Wheels size cars.
One shot, shot glasses. Any shape.
Custom cars OKAY, as long as the fit the track. No fit, then you give a shot to everyone right then.
Penalties will be given to anyone trash talking to much, though trash talking is allowed and encouraged. It's a fine line, so watch it!
Penalties involve your shout. (look this up if you don't understand)
To participate, you must bring fuel. No fuel, no run. If you don't drink, this is NOT prohibitive, just bring fuel, you DO NOT HAVE TO DRINK!!!
We are looking for participants, NO SPECTATORS!!!!
This event is not sanctioned by the NABX organization. We at NABX disavow any knowledge this event is taking place. We are not even sure where, or
when it is taking place, so participants will have to figure that out as well. No hand holding! No whining!!
The official will be known to all, and their word is final. All participants will agree on the fact that they may disagree on the outcome, but will
exit the event with good will and camaraderie to their fellow racer.
There will be cash prizes(or so i'm told).
That is all.

So, just to check...
For races, shot cars must be hotwheels sized vehicles so fit on the track, with a since shot shot glass. They do not in fact have to be
hotwheel/matchbox cars. Is there a weight limet?
For Pimp-your-shotcar, anything goes as long as you don't want to race it? (All I'll say is that I have idea's for this, but they are are bit out of
the mold.)
I'm not going to have to time to pimp my buggy this year, but this could be FUN!
;P

coreykite - 5-2-2007 at 02:47 PM
Oh No, My Furry, Oversized Friend,
I know where you're going with this.
To be an oficial entrant in the Shot-Car Races, one must roll-up to the starting line in either a HotWheels or Matchbox car.
Single-shot shot glass glued to the top.
Stock tires.
No added weights.
No suspension, transmission or engine mods allowed.
Not to say that we won't have exhibition races or even match-races.
YOU - the racers will determine what classes hit the track.
But the Official Shot-Cars should be as even and level (well... only slightly inclined) a playing field as we can manage.
I'll bet that EVERTHING that fits on the table will get a chance to run.
It's a long week.
No tv on the playa.
Correction: Spectators will be allowed.
Participants are even more encouraged, but as Will Rogers once said "When the heros march down the street, some one must be standing at the curb,
applauding".

Chip - 5-2-2007 at 03:07 PM
Oh, well there goes the fun of that! :P
Maybe we need "stock" and "modified" class?
I hadn't thought of motorized though... ...little RC shot cars!
Pablo - 5-2-2007 at 03:10 PM
Not RC, but Hotwheels does make powered cars, plunk them on a charger unit and they'll run for 30 sec or so before winding down, slot car style motor
and drive train, just self powered.
I see though that the rules will not allow that particular car, back to the drawing board.
Chip - 5-2-2007 at 03:59 PM
Oh, there are controllable RC cars the size of hotwheels, with left/right steering. They use capacitors to power them, charged by plugging into the
controller.
http://www.mini-rc-cars.net/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWCATS&am...
Oh yeah, I'm seeing RC shot cars, even if I can't race it 'cause of the mean old coreylama. ;P
We could do a little independent circuit race on one of the tables. Maybe a team event, drive to one end, partner fill the glass, drive back without
spilling!
I might just pick up a four pack and bring on the fun.
awindofchange - 5-2-2007 at 06:35 PM
If you show up with a powered shot car for the race AND try to enter said car, you will be physically heckled, your fuel will be taken and
appropriated to help satisfy and calm the rioting crowd and then you will be tossed out of the arena (without your fuel which can stay).
If you put up a protest to your vanishing fuel, you will be forced to sit down and watch Corey's home made video of him buggying naked!
Oh and BTW, if this is going to be an (UN)official event I may be willing to put up an (UN) official prize to the winner if he/she is still standing
at the end.
Pablo - 5-2-2007 at 07:40 PM
OK, new plan, forget the high tech, I'll just have to out-drink you the old fashioned way.
Chip - 6-2-2007 at 07:07 AM
Well then, I'll just have to show up with a powered car and specifically NOT race it, just drive it over to the fueling station as often as possible!

Chipper-Buddy,
You may bring the most tricked-out shotcar you can conjure up.
You'll get to race it, if it fits on the track.
Anybody can race against you, it's their choice.
And yours.
We can match up any racers.
That's why it's called a "match race".
Official Shot-Car Racing is a seperate class.
Like Top-Fuel or A-Gas or Funny Cars (Laughing Stock?)
We can race trucks or vans or volkswagens or sports cars or even make up catagories on the spot.
No-body else is running this and making up rules that WE have to follow.
One of the opportunities at nabx is to create other ways to play.
So much of the default world is already in-place and we simply go-along.
Not so out here.
No-body has been here before.
This is a new sport and we are creating it as we go.
Seems a shame that the big tent isn't filled with merry-makers every night.
So I thought a good excuse to help that happen would be nightly shot-car races.
Silly enough.
The racing is not intended to exclude anybody.
Just the one class as even as we can make it.
Everything and anything goes for the rest.
Local buggier Dave LaVeck has a 1972 Monza with a big blower motor in it.
Street-legal and absolutely staggering.
If needed, Dave has threatened to glue a shot glass to the roof.
Maybe park it in the tent and just rev the motor.
So I think that kind of sets the boundries.
Like Hose-a said (but with better spelling) "Bring It!"

how about some morning races(time trials) without "fuel"
it can give us something to do while we wait for the wind to come up. i don`t think we should use "fuel" in the morning knowing we will get in our
buggies as soon as the wind comes up. "fueled" up buggying is not a good thing.
coreykite - 6-2-2007 at 01:36 PM
You call it whiskey...

I don't need no steenking rules.

Maybe the morning fuel is orange juice.
Huh?
