Just a thought, if you zoom out just a hare, there seems to be some large open areas, they look paved, very similar to a runway. There seems to be
some aircraft in the area as well.
One thing you're going to want to look into is what's the law for flying in a proximity to an airport. I know here in Canada you need to be 5 miles
away min. We have an awesome beach that's about 2 miles to the airport, even flying little 5m kites, the airport security has come and stopped them.
The guys got lucky, could have been a huge fine. Our radar system kicks in around 100 ft give or take a bit, so a kite on 30m lines is right on the
edge of showing up on their tower radar. Any air or longer lines and you're busted for sure. Just investigate the law, you may be allowed in that
area.

Flysurfer Speeds are one of my all time favs... SOOO powerful and stable. Without doubt the most powerful 13m kite i've ever flown. Only problem is
it's a lillll bit slow to turn, but its a low wind kite so i guess you can't have everything... its so wide as well, looks enormous in the sky!
I only recently aquired it so i'm yet to give it a proper test but i flew a friends speed 13 back in england for a while. Its leaps and bounds better
than the Psycho II IMO which i found didn't seem to have a whole lot of lift, it was more freestyle, the speed is more about tearing upwind super fast
and then doing a huge jump, the way i like it! 
And yeah that field is really close to the airport :puzzled: dunno about the regulations, it might be fenced off as well... i would make sure i had a
permit before flying there me thinks.

I used to live just around the corner from there, and I believe that field is part of the old Lockheed-Martin plant in El Segundo. It's a rougher
field than it looks from the air, and it's definitely too close to LAX for kiting to be tolerated, as I found when flying on the soccer field at the
high school nearby. Also, I believe it's a "superfund" toxic cleanup site, as this whole area was a major production and flight-testing facility
during WWII, and on to the end of the Cold War.
The aircraft "skunkworks" located just across the road, to the right in this shot, has been closed for some time now, (1987?), when all the defense
contractors moved to more accomodating locations or were dissolved.
That's all this L.A. native can tell ya... wish my grandmother were still alive, she lived in that area for many years, and owned a plot of land that
she purchased for the grand sum of $700.00 in 1943. It's now worth many millions; she used it for a "Victory Garden", growing vegetables to
supplement the family's rationed food supplies during WWII.

yeah we'll need to find grass this weekend if we wanna get on boards cos low tide is at bad times of day 
Was a wicked session on venice beach this weekend though, wasn't too busy but there were a few too many people for my liking around
