Anything near Pittsburgh?

rofer - 13-4-2015 at 07:27 PM

I'm pretty sure I would have noticed if anyone who's currently active is in the general Pittsburgh area, but just in case I'm posting this.

As far as I can tell there's no good place to fly inside Pittsburgh with full length lines. When I was desperate I would take out my NPW on short lines in Schenley Park, but that generally didn't work too well until I was seriously overpowered.

I do know there's a kite club over at http://windstarkites.com/FlyPghKiteClub.htm, however I don't have a car so I haven't been able to join them yet. I'm hoping I can find somewhere I can fly without a car, but if not I'll likely have a car in a few months (or be somewhere else).

It also seems that no one kites on the rivers, but I did find reports of some people sailing along them, so I'd think kiteboarding could be possible.

Anyone happen to be in the area or know about anywhere around here that I could fly at?

Wildwood?
(Hey, it might be eight hours away, but it's look in' like the only option.)
See you there!

Yeah, you should do whatever you can to get to Wildwood this week. Will definitely be worth your time.

kiteballoon just pointed out (in the IRC channel you should all join) that I'm only 2.5h from Lake Erie. Looks like as soon as I have a car I'll try and live up there on the weekends.

I actually have Thursday and Friday off, so if I had a car I could try and make it to Wildwood. Without one that trip is kind of difficult though.
