JIBE Dates 2016 - preliminary

acampbell - 10-5-2015 at 07:14 AM

Ted was right; the first and third weeks in May 2016 look promising from the standpoint of predicted tides.

Even better, the first week - Mon May 2 through Fri May 6 - are even better with a much greater tide range. This will mean "minus tides", in other words, low tides as much as 1.3' lower than the average low tides. This means an even bigger beach than this year. Times are very convenient, too- a little bit earlier in the day. Here are the predictions...

Day........ Low....................High
M 5/2-----11:23a/ -0.1'---- 5;14P 7.1'

T 5/3------12:20p/ -0.5'-----6:13p/ 7.6'

W 5/4 -----1:14p/ -0.8' ----- 7:10p/ 8.0'

Th 5/5 ----- 2:07p/ -1.1' ---- 8:04p/ 8.4'

Fr 5/6 -------2:59p/ -1.3' ---- 8:57p / 8.6' >>>>> 9.9' total range!!!

Sa 5/7 ------3:50p/ -1.3' ---9:48p/ 8.6'

Normal total ranges are about 7-8', so these are extraordinary

These are based on St. Simon's Light, just to the north, and are predictions based on orbital mechanics, but will be close enough to tide tables to be published next year.

These dates are also again far away from the Turtle Crawl Triathalon and Memorial Day, and still before Mother's Day. Just have to get final approval from Jekyll Island, but that should not be a problem.

Mark the dates! More to come.

Then there's "dates the Mark"; that would be Fiona

soliver - 23-5-2015 at 03:24 PM

Have these dates been nailed down yet?... My in laws are asking me in order to get their SSI vacation rental ironed out so we can do the same piggy back next year.

acampbell - 25-5-2015 at 09:48 AM

Yes we have a green light for 2016 with the dates of May 2 - 6

There is a possible problem with the Kite Fort but there is time to work on that.

acampbell - 18-6-2015 at 01:48 PM

Joan and I just booked the Gritz Carleton cottage on Jekyll Island for the week of JIBE 2016. Dog friendly and all. Game on.

jrhook - 18-6-2015 at 02:18 PM

Dog friendly?...any more available?

acampbell - 18-6-2015 at 02:24 PM

jrhook - 18-6-2015 at 02:36 PM

Thanks Angus...the wife would love it down there!

3shot - 18-6-2015 at 06:01 PM

We are booked too at the same place on Brice road. Can't wait!!

acampbell - 18-6-2015 at 07:03 PM

Yeah it took me about 7 years to learn.... It's just as much the families that make the event as is the kites... We really enjoyed staying on the island the two days we did at the new Holiday inn this year. The week rental for a whole house is less per night. At least that's the justification.

Jason you'll appreciate this...
Took Joan to Driftwood Bistro last night for her B-day. They totally punked her. A few days ago she posted on a Facebook page called " friends of Jekyll island" and she posted the question of "where should we go for dinner for my birthday, Driftwood Bistro or the new Westin hotel? " The vote was overwhelming with a score of like 43 to 3 for Driftwood. Turns out that the Driftwood General Manager was tracking the thread all along and had Joan pegged from her FB photo at the front desk when we checked in for a table. When the check came after the meal they comped us the bottle of wine and wished her happy birthday. Totally blew us away.

3shot - 19-6-2015 at 12:59 AM

That is cool Angus! The Bistro dinner is as much a part of our Jekyll vaca as flying kites. Even more special last year because we got to share a meal with good people Mark and Fiona.

Amanda really wants Joan's recipe for that salad she made at the luncheon at kite fort. It was amazing! Tell her we said Happy birthday!!

Demoknight - 19-6-2015 at 01:28 PM

Very excited to see everyone next year! I am going to start looking for housing again :)

soliver - 19-6-2015 at 05:04 PM

We loved the spot on Brice Ln this last year, but it was a little small for the family of 6, so we are thinking we may look for a bigger spot for 2016... plus we are in the process of adopting a furry 4 legged friend, so we will also need a pet friendly rental too... the main problem in the hunt thus far is that many of the realty places have not yet posted the rental price for next spring yet.

Sorry we're not going to be neighbors with you guys and Mark and Fiona next year

3shot - 19-6-2015 at 07:10 PM

There seems to be a lot of dog friendly places to rent on Jekyll.

Right what they did for us is to estimate the price and take a deposit based on that. If they're off by 7% or more, we can back out with full refund.

soliver - 8-9-2015 at 08:24 AM

BOOKED IT TODAY.... we are all set with a pet friendly rental for Sunday 5/1 to Sunday 5/8!!!

WOOOHOOOOO!!!!

markite - 8-9-2015 at 09:39 AM

We are also booked for 1-8th at the same place as there was a rumor of steak and beer from further down the unit :D - looking forward to seeing all our good friends and hanging out next may. New owners at our place and rental rates are a bit higher. Still working on getting other CDN friends to come down.

soliver - 8-9-2015 at 03:05 PM

We will still be pretty close to Brice Ln, the place we are renting is a house on Glynn Ave... and steak sounds GOOOOOOOOOD

We will be bringing our new buddy Lucy

3shot - 9-9-2015 at 11:07 AM

Can't wait to see you guys again!!

Demoknight - 18-9-2015 at 01:14 PM

With luck, I will only have to make the trip from Atlanta next year. Without luck, I will be driving another 18 hours each way again. Either way, I will be there!

mougl - 29-10-2015 at 09:19 PM

Going to try to make it this year.

soliver - 30-10-2015 at 05:25 AM

It'll be good to see you again Scott!

acampbell - 30-10-2015 at 08:29 AM

Awesome, guys.

Luckily, tides won't be as wonky as the last few days here. With a full moon, astronomical high tides and strong east winds, the St. Simons Island causeway was under water and closed, and water was in the streets in downtown Brunswick.

Demoknight - 6-11-2015 at 06:23 PM

Ssayre better figure out how to come with me this year. Nothing like 4 miles (I think me and Mark proved it is really like 6.5 miles now) of hard pack to stretch your legs and cruise!

soliver - 7-11-2015 at 07:08 AM

Yes I agree,... Sean, you should come.

3shot - 11-11-2015 at 01:55 PM

Yes Sean. Hard pack so smooth marbles can roll to the ocean!!:D

Demoknight - 12-11-2015 at 09:09 PM

I think everyone can agree, with a beach like Jekyll, you can literally progress at least a year's worth of kiting skills back home in the janky wind.

3shot - 1-12-2015 at 03:40 PM

Well said Errol. Watching you the last two years at JIBE, I'd have thought you'd been riding for years! Jekyll will spoil you though. Getting back home to the crappy soccer fields is a reality slap. Lol

I'm serious Sean. You make it to JIBE and the beer and steak is on me bud! Errol, you get one for having the coolest beard, and for kidnapping Sean to get him here.

If he doesn't come, well... you can tell him how good his steak was...

3shot - 23-12-2015 at 07:22 PM

Hmmmm....

Just a few more days and we can start the official 2016 countdown!!!!:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

Demoknight - 1-1-2016 at 06:53 PM

I'd say we start now!

3shot - 2-1-2016 at 09:44 AM

Yup!!

soliver - 2-1-2016 at 06:47 PM

Rental paid off with Christmas money... ALL WEEK this year baby, Sunday to Sunday, followed by sunset sessions on Saint Simons' East beach the week after.... Whoot Whoot!!!

:wee:

frankiter - 12-1-2016 at 07:35 PM

I just got my vacation approvals for the two best holidays of the year - the week of JIBE and the week of Christmas. Starting to get the stoke!:thumbup:

flyguy0101 - 13-1-2016 at 05:23 AM

Reserved the house see you in May woohoo

3shot - 15-1-2016 at 06:31 PM

Awesome!!!

TEDWESLEY - 16-1-2016 at 07:09 PM

From what I hear, the ladies are already counting the days!
No way could I not go, I'd have to sleep with one eye open. Heck I'd even have to be wary of the dogs.

JimSSI - 19-1-2016 at 06:10 PM

I've been out, uh, grooming the beach for y'all. Can't wait for that steady East wind and JIBE - lots of lumpy N and NW wind this winter.

Talking JIBE up to the locals - may get a few newbies. Damn, what a first kitin' day that would be - sky full of color, folks zoomin' past....

And warmth - sure do miss the heat...

103 days?

PHREERIDER - 19-1-2016 at 07:37 PM

nice Jim, decent blast coming this weekend! get out, get some!

bring on the newbies! see u at JIBE
