Ozone Turbo bar - Quick Question

dangerdan - 19-5-2015 at 10:56 AM

I fly strictly handles but due to old age and a slight arthritic shoulder I'm thinking about getting the Ozone turbo bar to relieve some stress off that shoulder. I have read all the posts on PKF relating to this subject and I understand its the goto bar when flying static, depending on the kite used.

I want to use it with my HQ Toxic V 4.0 and Cross Sonic V 5.0.

Since the Ozone turbo bar is a bit pricey is it still considered the best bar to use on these kites or is there an alternative bar.

I don't know the answer to your question, but I bet that sonic is cool. :cool2:

Also, demoknight might have one for sale. You might check with him if you decide to get one. He let me borrow it and it's been unused for the last year in my garage. He may or may not have plans for it. It did not work at all with my 4m twister, but my PL viper s 5.3m acted like it was made for it. Demo's 8m toxic worked with it as well. FYI, with original turbo bar, it is sometimes necessary to lengthen the front lines with pigtails at kite or bar to get it to work correctly.

For me, handles work better on smaller FB kites and the turbo bar has worked better on bigger FB kites (can use my body as leverage and bigger kites in lower winds turn slower anyway).

Check out this past post (someone did not like the 4m Toxic on bar)

Why would you have ANY stress flying with handles ???

markite - 19-5-2015 at 12:43 PM

hey Ralph
I have a Turbo bar and so does David - I tried the Turbo on the big reactor and didn't like it, I have the bar for the other kites but haven't tried it on the C.K. Sonics yet to see how they would handle it. There is also the Peter Lynn crossover as an option. We can try the kite on the Turbo bar to see how it likes it and then you can decide if you want one or make a bar or try a different bar option - and get working on that harness for you.

Tried the TurboBar, but decided that I was happier flying FB on handles. Now I've somehow managed to move away form FB to depower and really only pull out my Cores and Hornets for static sessions. If Mark decides that he wants to keep his Turbo Bar, I'd consider letting mine go.

What about using handles with the Peter Lynn Back Strap. No stress on shoulders or arms. Fly with just finger tips.

Thanks guys for the quick response.
As Mark is only a 30 minute drive away I'm going to give him a shout.

Prussik - I'm not sure how to respond to your post but it made me smile.

Hey Howard
That option might work out okay if Ralph decides to get a turbo bar. At this point I'm not planning to sell the one I have but I would absolutely let Ralph try it out and even borrow it for a short time etc. we are close enough to get together and if it was a time convenient to have a few of us get together to fly somewhere then that's even better!

Why not handles with a strop to a harness (pulley bar)? That would relieve the pressure from your shoulder and give you the ability to stay on handles. I like flying with my handles that way, except for low wind, and the constant kind of wind we have, super gusty, where the lack of the same safety of a depower/needing to unhook to use the kite killers (or stupid handles/oh #@%$#! handles as my wife calls them).

Wasaga tomorrow afternoon? Wind's supposed to be good for it, and temps low enough to keep the sun worshippers away.

I would definitely be willing to part with my Turbo Bar. It worked great with my 8.0m Toxic. It will work well on most kites that fly well with brake input. I have only tried it on my 8.0m Toxic, so I cannot vouch for it on the smaller sizes, but if you try MarS-P-A-M-L-I-N-K-s and decide you want one, I will let mine go for much cheaper than you can buy one. U2U me if you are interested and I will talk to Sean about getting it shipped your way.

May be I underestimated the need to expand on the obvious. Unlike flying with a (depower) bar when there is always some pull on your arm(s), flying with handles is as close to “no hands” flying as one can get. With “no hands”, the kite will start to go up or down after a while but to correct it you need two fingers of one hand as much as this is all you need to fly the kite, period – as someone has already pointed out. So what stress on the arms are we talking about ?. Oh ! – do we have to start talking strops and pulleys again after all those years ?.

I got nothing dude. I thought my original post made it clear about my problem.

Prussik: not everyone on here has kited for years.

I think what Prussik is trying to say is you can take the stress off your arms by using a strop attached to each handle and connected to your harness. In other words you can hook in using handles or turbo bar and accomplish taking the stress off your arms. I would recommend using some form of quick releas as well though.

I understand what you are saying. If I was using a strop and a harness this would not be an issue. I will have to make myself a little clearer next time.

Its all good Prussik and thanks for the intervention ssayre.
