Antique C Kite?

mark g - 19-5-2015 at 06:42 PM

I happened upon a free 16m Slingshot "One Sixty" in excellent condition.

I'm a new rider-have put 100 miles on snow kites and beach riding on mtn boards w/ram air foils but new to LEIs on water.

So does anyone know anything about this kite? I've looked all over on line and only found references to the One Twenty-one
guy said it would be better used as a tent...

Will this kite kill me?? Will it frustrate the hell out of me?? Great big C kite-wonder how it will water relaunch, if I should consider it safe as a light wind 10-15 knots or beware of it until I get my water riding skills solid.

Any comments on the beast will be appreciated!

Agreed. tent or sunshade on the beach.
Probably not.
Yes.
Badly.
Nope.
Spend a few hundred on a used 2010 plus kite.

Here is how I understand it...be fantastic as a tent, in the hands of someone who has had experience of these type C kites will water launch NP...w/ me and much more you, yea probably kill us...and definately you first..the modern stuff will be much more user friendly.. But take it for sure if for no other reason to keep it out of someone else's hands it might kill.
Does that help?

A friend of mine had a big C-kite and took the lines and bladders out and gave me the fabric to make kites out of it.....That started me on this road to ruin.:D

4 line relaunch will be a big hassle. It won't fly all that early even though it is big and will offer you almost no range once it does. Forget about resetting out on the water if you pop your safety and it actually works!

Trying to learn on inferior gear is frustrating + unsafe.

Taking a lesson is still a VERY good idea even with your land background. An instructor will get you going in no time. Trying to transition on your own will be frustrating + unsafe. Lessons teach you a ton of important stuff for water like self rescue ...

Even the bar won't be of much value. Likely short throw and old school safety. The lines ???

not worth the effort to pump. if it will pump. would not take it on the water.

its over due for harvest.
