Golden Isles, Georgia; The Kite Buggy Tour

soliver - 19-5-2015 at 08:00 PM

Hey Gang, I was fortunate this year to be able to piggy back our trip to JIBE onto our annual family trip to Saint Simons Island, where my In-laws rented a place big enough for the whole family. We were able to do JIBE for several days and then another week on the neighboring Island/beach. We had a really great time and I got A LOT of buggying in.

I brought all my GoPro gear and even borrowed a second camera in order to be able to catch a lot of footage. I had a plethora of ideas and planned shots, however the combination of being too excited to ride to set-up, on top of some problems with my cameras, I really got an absolute minimum of footage at JIBE. I was able to iron out a few camera issues and get some additional footage on Saint Simons, so I combined it all together for a "Golden Isles, GA" video.

Click the pic and enjoy the tour.

I should add that sitting down in the buggy on Wednesday at JIBE was my first time in the bug since my accident in December and it really was like riding a bike. The result also though was a good deal of going slow... so forgive me that.

Excellent! I laughed as your daughter powerslides into view. Riding again so soon after your accident was a brave move especially considering the 30mph winds.

Great video, those sunglasses were obnoxious tho. :D

UGH... 5 months of recovery was enough for me!!! The wind that day was in the 20 mph range gusting to 30 at one point... but it was super nuts-o. About a minute after I landed the kite was when Angus walked by and said something like "is 30 mph fast enough for you?..."

I had a lot of great sessions that didn't get caught on film that I wish had: got to take wifey on an extended tandem ride weaving in and out of the beach goers (same day as the footage you saw) which was awesome... a couple of absolutely awesome light wind sunset sessions, and an absolutely killer sunset session with the 5.5m NS3 in practically perfect onshore winds in the mid teens... they will just have to live in my memory.

A twelve day vacation with a buggy bash and enjoying the beach with your family would be tough to beat.

You gotta come to JIBE Sean

period.

You know you really have to get the buggy train going as the girls get older, not just a tandem anymore - just like the train at the bbq.
Nice to see you test the emergency ejection - bonus on the tuck and roll
thanks for the morning entertainment - great to see you enjoying bugging again
Mark

... I'll borrow your tandem next year Mark and we'll give that a try!!!

As for the OBE, I'm glad I was over soft sand. I landed right on my right knee, gouged the sand pretty deep, then rolled... I was glad to catch it on camera like I did, but hopefully I did't traumatize my oldest who was behind me!!

ssayre - 20-5-2015 at 06:40 PM

That was cool. I just watched again and noticed the tandem slid around a corner.

soliver - 21-5-2015 at 05:13 AM

I'm guessing y'all mean around 3.00?... yeah... I did that to my wife once or twice on her first time out in the tandem. It barely effects the kids, but adults usually grip the rail and spout out some interesting language

For those of you who have families and are into buggying, I can't recommend the tandem enough... its loads of fun and a great way to get family involved in the sport... at least to give them the experience of what its like in the buggy seat.

Like I was saying earlier, I gave Ashli a good long extended ride on SSI this year and for me it was one of my favorite parts of the whole trip.... plus one of the benefits of crashing with the in-laws who hung out with the kiddos. :D

Good times! I so wish this had been a "thing" way back when my boys were young, they grew quickly bored when I took them out to fly kites (just SLS-P-A-M-L-I-N-K-s).

I keep trying to get my older girls interested in flying my 2 line foil so they'll get into it but to no avail... maybe when the little one's get bigger they'll get interested... I hope :D

@Phree... Thanks!

Good stuff, great family, and you got caught up on the buggy time you
lost because of your injury! Love the music.

soliver - 22-5-2015 at 12:00 PM

Thanks Davis!

TEDWESLEY - 23-5-2015 at 05:07 AM

Great vid and music! Who a' thunk buggy as a family sport. Buggy train ought to have a world record attached
for the longest train with multiple kites. I'm thinking next year we should give it a try!
