Fall SOBB 2015 ?

1oldkid - 2-6-2015 at 08:01 PM

Does anyone know yet if their will be a fall event?
Looks like in the past it has usually been around Labor Day...

sand flea - 3-6-2015 at 04:31 AM

with out a doubt, there will be a fall event

1oldkid - 3-6-2015 at 07:52 AM

Great, I'm putting it on the calendar RIGHT now! ;)

Morrie Williams - 3-6-2015 at 09:11 AM

The actual dates are 9/5/15 - 9/13/15.

BeamerBob - 3-6-2015 at 10:20 AM

SOBB is already on my calendar for the 5th through 7th.

1oldkid - 4-6-2015 at 07:16 AM

Thanks for the dates Morrie...
If I don't make this one happen, I'll :barf:!

sand flea - 11-8-2015 at 03:50 PM

its about 1 month away and I'm already excited!

who else is going?

I hope all the S-P-A-M-L-I-N-K-s show up again

Bladerunner - 11-8-2015 at 04:50 PM

Booked my room for the 7th to 11th. So less than a month now!

:wee:

canuck - 12-8-2015 at 08:43 PM

I have to give SOBB another go now that I have a buggy. Booked in at the Motel 6 from the 4th to the 9th.

rocfighter - 13-8-2015 at 05:22 AM

I wish I could get back there again. You folks were great hosts to the foreign guy from the north east! Some day I'll be back.

SaWeet!!!

It's always great riding with my " home boy " !

Be sure and pack the Coyotes! :bouncing::bouncy::bouncing:

If you can pack your ski boots I have easy adjust bindings on my sand skis.

Coyotes are always packed, but I really like the laid back ride on the buggy :D I hate to think that my body is getting older  I had not thought of bringing ski boots but they sure don't take up much space....
It will be great to ride with you again Ken. Also looking forward to seeing everyone.

macboy - 13-8-2015 at 10:53 PM

Hmm......17 hour drive.......if I left Saturday night at 5 I'd be in town for sun morning. If I timed it right the tide cycle might let me nap. Wake up and ride, visit, soak it all in......ride Monday and Tuesday then hit the road......

Giving this some serious thought here......could use some kite therapy. I'll check my passport.

sand flea - 14-8-2015 at 04:40 AM

we will miss you Roc

gonna be great to have blade, canuck and macboy!

Bladerunner - 14-8-2015 at 04:05 PM

I here you about the buggy being more and more appealing Bill. Especially when the tides are up.

These days a perfect day for me is a trifecta. One that I put a bit of time in on the board, blades and buggy.

How great if you can make it Kelly!

I think Dieter will have to miss this one or it would be a true Alberta invasion!

Wind needs to be strong to use the sand skis but ...... :Ange09:

You can do it. I'm doing a cannonball run on Friday myself. Leaving before dawn on Friday morning. No camper this time so I can make some time.

macboy - 14-8-2015 at 10:42 PM

Passport says I'm clear until March 2016.....that doesn't help the decision making process here....d'oh! Times like these I wish I was just three hours closer like Bill is......or 12 hours closer like the Kens.

I can't really complain about Sunset Beach being 16 hours away when I have Ivanpah 40 minutes away. Jim and Eli have it pretty good being minutes away from the beach though.

Blitzhound - 22-8-2015 at 08:08 AM

:DLooking forward to meeting ya'll there!

Bladerunner - 22-8-2015 at 11:20 AM

You won't regret the visit Blitz!

I have choices of rides so you are welcome to try my buggy or board / depower kites while there.

Don't be shy but be aware if the wind is up after a down spell people all of a sudden only care about getting out there!

Okay Jon and Eli, is buggy camp a go? or should we make other plans?

Bladerunner - 30-8-2015 at 10:18 AM

5 days to go.
:puzzled:

BeamerBob - 30-8-2015 at 12:58 PM

Eli mentioned to me on the phone a week ago that buggy camp was a go.

Morrie Williams - 30-8-2015 at 08:50 PM

Ill be there Friday afternoon around 4 to help setup

BeamerBob - 31-8-2015 at 09:56 PM

Converted the buggy over to the fat tire version tonight. Looks strange since I've always had short or skinny tires on it. Now all it needs is a wide flat beach and some wind.

Windy Heap - 1-9-2015 at 09:41 AM

Map to Buggy Camp?, I lost the one from last year.

Morrie Williams - 1-9-2015 at 02:54 PM

Made it to Seaside!

Is the beach access at the end of Sunset Beach Road good for a car? What time will folks be out there Saturday? It doesn't look like wind will be around until noon?

macboy - 5-9-2015 at 08:45 PM

Take some for me too Bill! I wrestled with the thought of the drive all day today (was working) but decided I better not make the run. Odds are in favour of a spring SOBB with family along with me so I thought I'd reinvest this hall pass into that. The west winds I saw forecasted didn't help make my decision any easier. I swear if we lived in Calgary I'd be across the border by now.

I'll be living vicariously through the forum so post lots! Can't even go sailing tomorrow unless I wanna get soaked and frozen.

canuck - 6-9-2015 at 09:49 AM

Too bad you can't make it this time Kelly. I'll try to add some miles for you. It was a great first day, but overcast and showers so far today. At least it is not snow flurries like back home

Here is sand flea blasting past Bladerunner and I. The wind was SSW 8-10 mph most of the day so heading upwind toward the road access took a while for me but the run back to camp was good.

Rain. All day long rain. Hope it's dried out for you. I'm curled up with a gulf islands guide book waiting for a Guinness shepherds pie (rainy day comfort food) to bake.

macboy - 6-9-2015 at 06:50 PM

Duplicate post.

Bladerunner - 9-9-2015 at 12:50 PM

Good times ! As always!

Wind every day. Even if it was side on. I have never seen the beach so wide, smooth and hard at this time of year!

Just like the down wind leg of the runs, It was all over far too fast for me. With solid traffic congestion from above Everret to below Olympia last Friday it took 10.5 hours to drive down. Home was the usual 7.

Thanks to everybody who made this such a well attended and enjoyable event! It looks like good weather for the rest of the week!

I have to say that being able to relax and get rearranged legally was an amazing feeling! :saint:

Would love to see some photos. You west coast guys seem to hate sharing ;)

Debauchery around the SOBB fireplace can not be spoken of in Kite Club.

8-)

I'm sure as the noobie buggier of the fleet out sailing amongst numerous Zen-God-Yoda mode buggy owners launching 19m foils, and numerous beach wedding cars (at least 80-100?) and other good targets to aim for, I know I provided entertainments for all...........thank you Chris and Ken and Shawn and Eli and all you others that were like well mannered drill sergeants to get my folding P/L buggy and numerous foils and my grunting wheezing asss in shape. Hey, I went out there and didn't hit anything/anyone, + 2 rep points for me.

Pics to follow.

what happens in buggy camp stays in buggy camp.

grins. My virgin cherry has been popped and I look forward to the next rodeo.

Howdy from another newbie! I found out about SOBB a couple of weeks before the event. I had never seen a buggy in action before in real life. Wow!!! and it was great meeting so many awesome people. I'm hooked!

I already have an old PL folding buggy that I had found on CL and with a lot of help from folks at SOBB (and since--thank you again, Jon) I am now able to buggy back-and-forth. It's not a pretty sight but man, am I ever happy. :D

Special recognition to
Jon Ellis - What a guy!
John from Vancouver - fixed me up with a 3.8 Ekko. Janie spent a great day with Donna.
Mark, John's friend from WA - Lots of good advice.
Aaron from Hillsboro - Gave me a wonderful ride on his tandem. :wee: (I need to learn how to fly a DP next)
Chris, a neighbor - Sorry I missed connecting with you...
Mike - I need a JoJo Instinct. Sorry I missed you on Saturday. The weather was kinda crappy and nobody on the beach by the time I got there.

I'm looking forward to seeing more of everybody next time. And it sounds like I better spend some time in camp next time :)

I took some with my helmet camera and a stationary video camera. Not many frames with good photos to post - I tried to stay safely out of everyone's way

Thanks for the shot of my new to me Yak GT 14m! Bought it across the pond and it is an awesome day saver. Took me for rides when much less wouldn't have worked. Made the run from Sunset to Seaside with it even with a change in wind angle so I was close to upwind for my return leg. Custom colors really pop as well. Gray with Orange. No white like all kites should be unless it's a big white Silver Arrow 19m like Bladerunner shared with me.
