Summertime Blues

shehatesmyhobbies - 22-6-2015 at 07:45 PM

I know for most people, summer is the time to look forward to. Kids get out of school, families go on vacation, it's a lot warmer outside so people aren't freezing and there isn't 6ft of snow on the sidewalk.

For me it is just a huge reflection on spring kiting and the realization that soon it will be time to get things going for WBB. I coach two baseball teams, a youth and young adult, I am the VP of Little league in my town as well as President of a travel ball organization tied in with a local university, so my time is pretty full when I'm not at work. I do occasionally get to put a kite in the air, when there is wind and no rain along with it, and I know I will go out and get on the water at least once this year, but for me it really is summer time blues as I am not out on the beach with my buggy friends at WBB.

As it looks to be near or over 100 degrees tomorrow and full of wicked humidity, I will be day dreaming all day of big October winds on the beaches of Wildwood NJ!
Summertime blues are in full effect for this guy!

Sorry it isnt fall yet, but on the bright side I will be at the beach this Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday. I will think of you and smile. Then I will buggy or board down the beach. :P

I appreciate that Jeff! :D. I did get taller tires and rims, but I'm pretty sure I still wouldn't be able to climb over the mountains of people on the beaches here!

The Summer is a little bit of a let down compared to all the opportunities and tons of time on frozen lakes....especially this past Winter.

In Winter, on a lake, you don't need any particular wind direction, nor a low tide( beach) and it takes less to move on my ice skates(not snow, though). If I want to go ride the beach in Winter, I can too. Nobody is there and it's empty.

With Summer.... I have less chances not because of time, but limited terrain. Can't ride on a packed beach until they go home late in day.....

I totally have to agree with you Skim! Like you, summer is the off season for me:( I feel like I put up with summer simply to get to winter where the real kite time is:smilegrin: My buggy gives me just enough in the summer to keep my kite withdrawals at a minimum. It's been over two weeks without touching a kite. Summer time blues:(

It's ironic that I'm in better shape in the winter than in the summer months. Majority of the WI population would beg to differ:P

I know the beaches on the west coast are not the same as the east coast beaches in regards to people use and size with the warm weather/water temp being opposite here and there. Is the wind or lack of wind that different from the Wild West coast?
Wind for this weekend at Grayland Wa will be in the teens gusting to the 20s.

Sorry Rich don't mean to hijack.

The winds do die off quite a bit in the summer here, other than the beaches lol. There is plenty of wind for the occasional trip down to kite surf, but my time for that really gets limited.

I am looking to get a kayak not only to explore, but for cardio and core workouts.

Had to do away with most of my other hobbies, r/c stuff to keep the wife from going nuts. Guess my biggest issue is really time for kiting and lack of wind inland for kiting this time of year.
