retro monday

PHREERIDER - 14-7-2015 at 07:34 AM

after seeing carl's vid that had the drone shots, and a VI in one of the frames, I had to dig out an old V16 and take a ride.

i had not been on this unit for 4 years maybe , not sure,

anyway go to storage and grab the sausage bag, grab the ARC bar and lines, zips are good , fill and go!

15+ and high tide about an hour on the water and some atb.

forgot the powerful feel this thing has, along with super duty bar pressure , fooled with the trim got the sweet spot dialed and zoom! the c-kite roots really show on the water. super floaty finish to the airs . familiar stable idle. all that pop ..right there where i left it.

units' roughly 8-9 years old and without fuss or delay delivers a fun session.... now thats back up!

heres the unit at JIBE maybe 5 years ago

this unit has been modded with shortened LE shoulder straps and TET for the hyper venom effect which basically is a VII with this mod

unit has pulled years on the water and land for me , and continues to do so.

That's cool that with your thousands of hours of time, you can still find the value in what was a great kite that long ago. You obviously have an open mind about the equipment.

think that was fall of 08 , this was was like 09, 10

making ME feel kinda like a retro unit myself.

Bob its still a big slow kite with a mountain of power, actually alot of apparent speed build for sure , the down loop come around after big air transition is a gut check ! nothing is slowing down or "depowering" its all a blasting run and hope you can get on edge to track back before it THROWS you down.

and its just a cool looking kite.

now you got me thinking ....this thing in 35 knts certainly opens the mind with moments of clarity that are difficult to forget.

Seems like that was your upper limit for the 13? When stuff started breaking? I'd tell you to be careful out there, but you always know what you're doing!

13 and 16 both made regular full season rounds no matter the wind. starting out overpowered with a solid bar to balance on made for smooth power and float. right on Bob, risk rate---> always crunching the #'s on it, moment to moment sometimes.

like tonight ! i hit this 7:30-8:30 ...on my 12M! knowing i had choosen poorly , flew conservative ...but phlew BIG!

always safe !

I loved those blue flames on the VI's. I had a 19m that was just plain beautiful. Here's a video of the other end... Flying in almost 0 wind...

I love that you pulled out your 16m and got a session in. Makes me a little nostalgic for my arcs. :)
