Thats all Folks

popeyethewelder - 31-7-2015 at 12:28 PM

Thanks guys, you have all been great friends over the years, and given me great support, but its time for me to move on now.

My Buggying Days are now over

I will continue following the sport and keeping all the records up to date, it was also a real pleasure meeting some of you guys in person.

shortlineflyer - 31-7-2015 at 12:49 PM

thank you for contributing so much to the community. I am very grateful for that

robinsonpr - 31-7-2015 at 01:00 PM

Ah man, sorry to hear you are giving it up. Having not been in the sport long I did use your site a lot to read all about this buggying lark. And now I finally just got hold of one of your awesome buggys.

Gutted I never got to meet you in person, I did make it to Mablethorpe this year for my first proper beach experience, though I didn't have the Superbug II at the time, just a flexi. I was with Robocourier, he bought "The Patriot" from you a while ago. He let me have a ride in it, and from that moment I told myself then I'd own myself a PTW ride one day.

And lo and behold the SBII came up for sale, and now it's in my garage! Robocourier made the comment "this is Popeye country" when we made the long drive up to Mablethorpe. I'd have given you a big handshake if I had bumped into you!

Enjoy the biking. And thanks for your massive contribution to the kiting world.

Cheers,

Paul

You will be one that I will remember for a long time. I watched as you displayed your skills and passion in a sport we have grown to enjoy. You will be missed but not forgotten.
I hope the best for you and your lovely wife in your next venture. If you put your mind to it I know your next endeavor will make a huge influence on the next group of admirers.

abkayak - 31-7-2015 at 01:26 PM

you dont know me but thank you for helping me out..i believe a trip across the pond would be in order..if not a world tour

Windstruck - 31-7-2015 at 02:48 PM

Sorry to see you go! I'm sure your next adventures will bring you as much joy as this one has. Like others, I too have perused your site gobbling up your great tips and pointers and just flat out drooling all over my keyboard looking at your gorgeous rides. With some good fortune maybe I'll ride one someday. Stuff dreams are made of. Thank you for such a strong positive influence you've had on this sport.

PHREERIDER - 31-7-2015 at 03:49 PM

glad to have meet you at NABX. Thanks for the supreme work !

TEDWESLEY - 31-7-2015 at 04:07 PM

We've all gained great inspiration from your work in the sport.
I wish you well in future endeavors.

Bladerunner - 31-7-2015 at 06:47 PM

I think that the whole kite buggy revolution was influenced greatly by you. The whole sport is a whole lot better off thanks to all you have done and all you are. You have made a huge mark on this side of the pond and I was honoured to ride with you!

Never got to meet you in person, but had many of FB conversations with you and you even gave me some great numbers for getting my angles right on my down tube on my first buggy build. Built it 6 years ago and it's still going strong.

Thanks for everything that you have done for the sport, the friendships you have made, and the knowledge that you have shared with so many. You are one of the best out there in my book, and an inspiration to so many. You may leave for now, but I know it will always be inside of you,

Farewell and best wishes in your next adventure.
Again thanks!

You had me on the edge of my chair reading your story Carl. I really thought you had made it into the 100kph club.
It shows great character that you started laughing out loud. Funny story but I hope not the end.

Please Carl, we must meet up when the east wind blows and Mablethorpe calls.
The dominator will be waiting for you!!!. Me, you and Old_Guy. Let me know when.:thumbup:

*******************************************************************************

Some years ago I drove up to Lincon to meet with Popeyethewelder in the hope of fitting into his Dominator 4 buggy.

Upon arriving at his home I climbed out of my car and immediately knelt down on his driveway ready to initiate a full, arms out stretched 'I'm not worthy' style homage before he shouted over to me. Tom No! :D

Here was the man himself in the flesh welcoming me into his home.
My physical body remained sat in the car while the floating 'out of body' part of me drank tea with him in his kitchen.

Throughout I kept thinking, I'm actually in Popeyethewelders house! I'm actually in his house and he is standing in front of me and his mouth is opening and closing and words are emanating from it. If only the other guys could see me now. Wow!

I must have answered and nodded my head in all the correct places because we then went through a magical door that led into the inner sanctum he called the garage and in that garage was a beautiful shiny buggy. Stay calm!

I didn't even have all the money! He allowed me to pay in installments!! Carl I love you. I'm proud to have met with you and I'm proud and privileged to continue riding the Dom.

In some distant future when the rest of us have melted away into obscurity, buggy riders of the future will look back at the early history of kite buggying and discover one name standing out high above the rest, and we can say, we were there.

Legend, you are. And a "playa", too. Thanks for all you've done for the community. It was an honor to ride with you. Wishing you and Denise all the best.

cheezycheese - 1-8-2015 at 05:42 AM

Say it isn't so... :( first Muhammad Ali, now Popeye... I suppose next someone will try and tell me the Easter Bunny isn't real. :(

Enjoy your new endeavors. Thanks for helping me get that kite bro, always in your debt.

acampbell - 1-8-2015 at 06:23 AM

So what are you building now? Space Shuttles?

Really, it's been a honor and it was great to meet you at NABX. I still have my personally autographed PTW poster on the wall above my workbench. Your work and good fellowship have been an inspiration to us all.

Fair winds forever...

Cheddarhead - 1-8-2015 at 07:07 AM

Although I understand that life leads us down other streets, it's sad to see you leave the sport. You have contributed so much and have had a profound affect on so many in this great sport! I can say with certainty that you were the driving force behind my own buggy build. I don't think I would have been as successful as I was without your tutorials on building buggies. I wish you well in your new hobbies:bigok:

aronma - 1-8-2015 at 05:43 PM

You've inspired many of us and have been a great catalyst for this sport. I thank you.

3shot - 1-8-2015 at 06:09 PM

I still dig through the PTW resources. Thank you for the wealth of kite and buggy knowledge!!

rpriegu - 2-8-2015 at 05:23 PM

Carlos, Thank you very much for sharing your knowledge with the whole buggy community!!!
You'll be really missed, thank you again!!

Tom....if you only knew....I was the one in awe, to have the famous RedSkyHorizon in my home, and even more honoured you wanted one of my buggies, I couldn't have wished for anyone else to own the Dominator4, I knew there would be a constant stream of your brilliant videos, and more importantly, you would be the one to get every single MPH out of that special buggy, I will continue to follow you and watch your amazing progress within kite bugging, good luck my friend

popeyethewelder - 9-8-2015 at 11:42 AM

To everyone else, thank you too, this forum has always been my favourite kite bugging forum,...you guys are so passionate about the sport, and a pleasure to be around.

Long may Power Kite Forum continue
