Just one of those 5 kite days

Just some kite observations from today:

Blowing almost 20 gusting 30 mph. Took out the 2.4 Sting. This kite will run 30 mph. Showed so on the GPS. Best runs of the day. Wind slacked off; and needed more kite. Debated on the 3.3 Sting or the 3m Ozone Quattro. The big Sting really needs to be powered up for it to shine. Went with the Quattro. Wind was falling at this point. Didn't pay any attention to the GPS so who knows what it topped out at. Wind fell some more. Got out the 3.5 HQ Alpha. Not bad while it lasted but I was chasing a declining breeze. Got out the 4.5 Cross Kites Quattro. When I first got it out; I was barely able to get around. Then the wind came back and I was over powered. This is one of those kites when out of its wind range it tends to feel like it "locks up the controls". It just wants to sit up there squared up with the wind. Locked into it. So I parked that. Wanted to see how the 2.5m Rage would fare. I'm continuously impressed by this kite every time I fly it. If you like an acrobatic kite; one you can constantly loop, spin, and fly all over the sky; this kite is a must have.

The wind was so atrocious; inland gusty conditions; I left the Octanes and Reactors at home. Didn't want to deal with their high aspect ratio traits in gusty conditions. They only get brought out when the wind is good enough for them. I just wanted to fly. No kite crashes; and no kites fell out of the sky today.

When I get some real wind again; I want to take the 2m Hornet and 2m Beamer VI back out again for more back to back comparisons. Initial results:

2m Hornet(current model): Top buggy speed: 20 mph.
2m Beamer VI: Top buggy speed: 30 mph.

Back to back on the same day. Alternating between kites. I just couldn't wring out more than 20 mph out of the Hornet. They both fly very, very nice though. I want to give them each another test.


Buggied from 5-8:30. Chart doesn't show the lulls though. Wind was all over the place up and down.



Really looking forward to a full day of PKD Buster Soulfly: 1.5, 2.2, 3.3, 4.4.

I've buggied a few times with the 2.2m. Flys really nice. Reminds me of the 2.5 Rage in how it flies. I was so impressed by it; I had to get the rest of them. I need to "feel out" the wind range of the 3.3 and 4.4.

I've only hooked up the lines on the 1.5 on a "no wind" day. It was maybe blowing 0-5 mph that day. Static flew it and was amazed that both it would fly(it feels heavy duty built for it's size) and that it had as much pull as it did! Really surprised me in it's power output. Yes I had to keep the kite moving at all times, and fly it aggressively, and walk backwards at times to keep such a small kite flying in such light wind; but it did fly and had impressive power considering the size and wind conditions. I think because it flies fast; it generates more power then a slower flying 1.7m Sting for example.
