Moving to an Intermediate Kite (PL Twister vs HQ Toxic vs Ozone Method)

sneaky_pete - 31-8-2015 at 02:25 AM

Hey Guys
I have been flying my HQ beamer 3m^2 for a while now. I have gotten to the point where I can scud on sand in higher wind and control it with the brake line without always needing to be looking at it. I'm looking to move up to a good intermediate kite with a bit more power and lift.

Ideally I'd like a good all round kite that I can at some-point transition with to an ATB or a buggy and maybe let me do a some small jumping. Reading the forum's it seams that the best options would be a 4 or 5 m Peter Lynn Twister or a HQ Toxic.

However neither of these seam to be available in Australia. I can get a Ozone Method 5 m however I can't find very many reliable reviews of these.

I would appreciate some advice of if I should go with the Method or shell out on the International Shipping and get a Toxic. Also is it a bad idea to jump all the way to 5m or should I go with the 4 meter kite.

For reference I live near the ocean and can usually get a steady sea breeze of 10-15MPH in summer.

Have you looked on extreme kites forum in the for sale section? Just curious, you might find a good deal used or find a dealer somewhat local.

if thats your end game you will wind up w/ dp kites anyway...imo grab the local method it will serve you fine...the ozone kites i have owned are of the highest quality and fly predictably...cant ask for more than that
welcome aboard

Haha Cheers for the fast replies.

Looks like I might have found a second hand toxic 5m on the extremekiteforum au for $250.

According to the seller, its just been sitting in storage for about 5 years and barely been used. (I hope)

Is there anything about a kite that can deteriorate over that time?

I have a good intermediate package deal for you. Will split shipping if interested. Have a 3m that would be a great high wind engine or even awesome for static sessions. And a 6.7 that would get you jumping.
$400 for the pair

I'm having trouble looking up the core, where does it fall into with other range of PL kites?

abkayak - 31-8-2015 at 06:34 AM

id put it in the range of if you bought it you will use your beamer for lending out and only be flying the core
hope that helps

If it has been stored indoors, it would be fine.

Insulated shed fine.

Problem arise as you get to less temperture controlled, damp (read conditions promoting mildew or dry rot), or exposure to gas/solvent fumes which can break down the coating on kites, tents, etc.

ATB,
Sam

Hard to beat Cheezy's deal on the package and for kites that have been well taken care of.....I see dibs on the 3.0...Pondering that one for the kids as well....love the colors too of that blue and orange together...

The Core was the all-round model in the Peter Lynn "Pro" series.
It was discontinued last year. Generally, those that have them, love them.

Hi Pete, I've got a review of the 6.5m method here: Method 6.5m Review For the 5m the windrange in the buggy would be something like 11 knots to 20ish. You might have to add a couple knots for the landboard as you may be holding it higher in the window than for the bug.

Briskites should be able to get Peter Lynn stuff for you and I know they have the Toxic (although maybe not in stock). Toxics are well thought of as are the PL Core's - from all accounts, a very nice kite. I've only flown a 3m briefly once but was impressed with it.

The mid range aspect kites will require a little more speed to create their power compared to the low aspect stuff but they'll have a higher top end speed. The 5m Method I had could be beaten off the line by most 4m kites but it turned the tables when the speed/wind started to pick up.

A 6 - 8m depower might also serve you well....

Thanks everyone for your responses. YOu have all been very helpful. :D

cheezycheese if the offer is still there I would like to take you up on the offer for your 3m and your 6.7m^2

I will PM you my Details and we can work out shipping.

Thanks for the review John, it looks like a good kite, but I can get the 2 cores for the same price. I had originally ordered a toxic from briskites, but they are out of stock of everything besides he beemer and the scout 2 4m.
