Awesome but sketchy....

Had a nice evening tonight with my second V2 that has no issues at all... or it was supposed to be.....
The winds were supposed to be 10 to maybe 15 out at this park.... That is until I got out there! All of a sudden the winds went from nice and calm to raging in a matter of seconds. We all of a sudden were dealing with 20 to 28mph winds and me hooked into a 19m V2! Fortunately I was able to keep it controlled and the the freak wind storm passed and the winds steadied around 15 or so. 15 to 18 is about my absolute max with this kite so far... the 20+ had me puckering up just a bit. :wee: LOL! The rest of the evening was fun but this park, although pretty much perfect has been so dry that the cracks are large enough to swallow my boards wheels! You can see how big they are in the photos. My friend that did these shots tells me that the wind is always blowing here at this place... Now I know, not to bring a giant kite out here again without bringing a smaller backup. I got so used to my side of town where the wind never blows.... It just sucks. LOL! Just wanted to share my evening experience and some really cool shots.

28mph, nah, you should have stacked 'em. So you have found yourself a better location ?

Drone? That is a nice set of fields!

Nice shots!

Now you have a experienced definition of what "powered" or "lit" is. Thats good working power, when ur bouncing around on you toes , now ur ready to go!

Yep, This set of fields is really nice except for the cracks in the ground that are enormous. And the wind is always blowing in Converse TX. it seems. SO glad I did not stack them this day.... LOL!

Yep, all the aerial shots were taken with a DJI Phantom 3 Advanced. The pics from it are far better and clearer than the Phantom 2 we had before. Yep, these fields are gona be pretty sweet once I get a buggy. But they are a no go for a board until we get some really good rain and the cracks go away. I swear they are big enough to swallow you whole! :o

YEP! I had it almost fully depowered and it was still lifting me without even touching the bar. The drone was even having a tough time staying stationary! I think maybe a 16 would have been a better choice for the conditions... but even then. Fortunately it did stabilize after the little storm blew past and was fun.

1 square meter of PA for every 10KG of body weight, up to a gale, then deep consideration of whats really going on.

these kites have huge top ends ...and in general sized more like shoes. once fitted to size by ur mass it can be 15-35 without much concern.

over 30-35 + things in general are always kinda sketchy and rough. skill and judgement are the safety elements beyond that , no kite will lessen the speed and energy at hand.

AH, good to know. Not being a light flyer myself it seems I am in the right size ballpark then. Not sure I want to take on 30mph winds with this thing.... at least not anytime soon. It got to be a real handful at 20+ with gusts almost topping 28! It sure was fun though! LOL!

I had my 19m V2 in the KiteCat with 33mph winds at the beach while everyone else was on 5m trainers and 7&9s. The kite was HUGE that day! :D
You are aware that you can depower them still further by adjusting the straps inside?...just checking.

Yeah, I had it depowered inside the kite as well. I think a bit too much though as it wanted to overfly the window constantly. I usually have the straps midway to 3/4 powered but I let them all out yesterday thinking "just to be on the safe side". I think the lifting problem was also because of the storm that blew through causing a lot of updrafts in the area and really REALLY gusty winds. I had never been unexpectedly lifted so many times in a session before. It definitely was an experience yesterday. I'm currently working on making my own "poor mans" Peter Lynn Navigator bar from some of my old bars that should offer me a few more adjustments than the Best bars I am using.

This was what was happening quite often yesterday without even trying. Please excuse my Dr. Zoidberg impression.... LOL!:wee:

Windstruck - 5-9-2015 at 03:48 PM

Could have sworn I heard a loud "shoot" towards the end....

djsiryn - 5-9-2015 at 04:03 PM

OOPS! LOL! It was windy...no one heard......

this is a big pair of shoes for anybody!, don't let its docile light wind demeanor fool you. if you would 've had the bar in and ANY speed at all that could have been 20feet and 60yards downwind.

YEAH... That could have been a ride with a lot of hang time. Could be fun but not when I'm not expecting it. LOL! I wonder how fast I can get my legs moving before I would hit the ground? HAHA!:Ange09:
