Fancy tracking tripod

rofer - 29-9-2015 at 03:55 PM

Hi all,

I just bought a cool product and I hope it's okay to mention it here. I'm not associated with the company; I just think people might like this.

For a while I'd been wanting a Soloshot tracking tripod base for filming myself when I go out alone. I've always preferred footage filmed from a distance rather than from a GoPro, but I rarely have someone out with me. The Soloshot attaches in between a tripod and a camera and automatically tracks you so get nice footage all by yourself. Anyways, a few days ago I got an email that their new model is available for pre-order and it's 50% off until Oct 1. You can also get $50 by spamming your FB friends about it.

So, hope this lets someone else know about this cool product. It seems like we can very easily make use of this.

I looked into this product a few weeks back as it will suit my needs nicely but thought it was a little pricey for occasional use and considering I had just purchased a gopro that cost about the same amount . But I would love to get it eventually hopefully.

Well now's a great time to get one because of the sale. I got the new one with the camera adapter for $225 (vs the $550 it's supposed to retail at).

Previously I'd actually had some alerts setup online to try and catch old model on sale.

Just add a small rocket launcher or drone to that set up and think of the fun you could have and video the results at the same time.

I have one and I like it. Wish it had a zoom that would work without me having to manually adjust it.

Zoom control is possible with their own series of OpticXX cameras with the Soloshot 2.

Zoom control of other manufacturers' cameras becomes a pain due the highly proprietary nature of things.

Gumnuts did a fairly extensive >>REVIEW<< of the Soloshot 2 with pics and sample video.

Thanks so much for info . I was planning to buy older device few month back and I am so happy that I waited and that you share this info today ..... Ordered 65 version ......
I did not buy first version because it was tracking only to the sides ....... it was fixed in version 2...... I di not buy version 2 because auto zoom worked only with one sony camera ...... fixed in this version ...... I think package finally is complete and up to my liking ....... Cant wait to try it in WBB and OBX ...... Got extra tracker so it can film my brother at same time ....

Thanks Rofer

Hey everyone- I've been sitting on the fence for the last two days thinking about this... after reading this post I'm in. Just placed the order- excited to see what it can add to my videos :D

Hahah, glad to see people appreciated this. I was worried it'd seem too spammy.

Not having camera control (or a hackable firmware) is what prevented me from getting the Soloshot 2. I have a Sony A6000 so it looks like if I sell two of my lenses to buy the one they support I should get zoom control too. It's a shame it won't be here in time for this snowkiting season though.

Try not to have a solo shot when watching this...
