Power Kite Forum

End of Website

BigMikesKites - 13-10-2015 at 07:15 PM

I've taken a position at my office that comes with a nice raise, but it also comes with some concessions. One is I cannot have a web presence. I've asked and been granted to have until the end of the year before I take it down.

I will still be into kiting, and will still be doing the buggy thing and the kite festival thing locally. So it isn't all bad.

in the mean time. if you need something, email me and get it soon. I wont be replacing stock on anything other than hornets/beamers as I do sell some of those at festivals.

if someone wants to take over, they can get it all below cost.

Sorry to hear it's coming to an end. I'm not in a position financially (or storage space) to take over for you.

Outside of the 5m Lynx any other depowers you have to clear out?

Windstruck - 13-10-2015 at 08:54 PM

Mike - In the short period of time I've been involved with this forum and the larger kiting community I've truly come to appreciate your advice and your true sense of doing business the right way. I hope to have the chance to meet you some day and share the wind together. Maybe at an Ivanpah event! All the best going forward.

BigMikesKites - 14-10-2015 at 03:22 AM

@volock....I kinda new this was a possibility for a few months and the more expensive stuff, I've been cutting back on like the DePower. I had until last couple weeks a leopard and a couple water kites.

How uncertain I was: I just got in an order of twisters and Hypes a week and a half ago.

IFlyKites - 15-10-2015 at 05:48 PM

Congrats on the position Mike! That's unfortunate about your shop having to close. When you mention someone taking over, are you wanting them to take over the entire operations of the website or just the email portion as in processing orders?

BigMikesKites - 15-10-2015 at 06:24 PM

if someone wants to sell kites, they can get a start on inventory below cost and have a website already to go at no cost. I'm still going to sell locally, not on the web. 90% of it will be single line kites. An occasional 2 line or hornet/Beamer entry level....but no web presence. so I wont be a competitor.

Bladerunner - 16-10-2015 at 04:09 AM

By " no web presence " does that mean you will not be able to share knowledge on this forum? Or is it just no commercial presence?

I have always enjoyed your opinions and would hate to think we will lose your wealth of knowledge?

BeamerBob - 16-10-2015 at 07:22 AM

It's sad to see another one of the good shops going away. Congrats on the new opportunity Mike.

BigMikesKites - 16-10-2015 at 07:57 AM

Weird. I posted from my phone earlier...i dont see it

BigMikesKites - 16-10-2015 at 07:58 AM

I work for a financial services co. Who ironically has their hands in just about every kind of online purchasing transactions. No web presence relates only to selling online. I can still have a site and still be a part of the community. Until now my position did not have bonus possibilities so there are different rules i guess

I can and will still sell locally...but focusing less on real kites that we fly here and more on the Charlie Brown type...which i curretly have 1352 of those in stock for festivals

Big Mike has been the biggest contributor to my collection of ripstop. I am sad to see you changing directions, but happy for your new opportunity. Good luck at the new gig, bud!

acampbell - 16-10-2015 at 12:37 PM

My goodness Mike, what a sea change. You've gotten my back many times with stock items and I really appreciate it. Glad that you can still contribute to the community. Good luck with the new job direction.

Put the business in a family members name and keep rockin. Problem solved.

Thanks for the great site and service. Your video reviews are great, especially for people who don't have locals to learn from.

kiteballoon - 19-10-2015 at 01:15 PM

Thanks for taking care of me. I can attest to great deals and service I got through you Mike. Sad to see you go, but glad to hear about the new opportunities at the day job. Nothing is without cost eh?

Pleasure meeting you in the desert. Here's to sharing a lakebed again in the future.

"Put the business in a family members name and keep rockin. Problem solved. "

This is the second mention of this. I am going to pursue this avenue. As long as its ok with corporate, I didn't even think of it before.

Will is the only one interested. he turns 18 in a few days, so he is a possibility. Aaron's middle name is Michael...but he doesn't want to mess with it. I'm still in coax mode. and waiting word.
