HQ Rush 300 Pro School??

MotoFoo86 - 15-10-2015 at 12:40 AM

Hopefully we can get some of the gurus like Chris to weigh in here. This is mostly a curiosity more than anything.

I see that HQ is adding a very small depower kite to their Rush range of kites, wondering if anyone has tried it, seen it, etc.

It seems like i'm regularly getting caught taking someone with me (oh no!) and they always want to try, but for some reason when i pop out a cheap 2 line, or even a small 4 line on handles, they look at me like i'm an alien. Feel like this might be a compromise.... Plus there's always the rule of how many kites you want (n+1)... i think i'm currently at n+3... or 4

We're still waiting on it as there was an issue that delayed the initial release. We'll be using them in our school fleet but also offering them for sale on our site and to our students.

$375 shipped is a great price for a 3m depowerable.

Maybe if these things work out well for everyone HQ will expand the range. The kite world needs an affordable entry level depower series to get more people into the sport.

A quick search of the ozone unos has them marked down to $369. Maybe they are anticipating this kite as competition for the kite schools. Rush would be could for land/snow training.

Double check that.... pretty sure the $369 is for the 2.5 Uno and is KO.

Believe the Rush 300 Pro School is RTF.

Which makes it a ...... deal.

I know I look at the sport different than the majority but .......

When the wind blows in the top 20's and thirties my mind set changes to " survival kiting " mode. Once the wind is so strong I no longer want to use my 7m ( or 450 S-arc ) I go to my trusty 2.5m Pro Foil. Once the wind is in the 30's I think twice about even hooking in with it. Sort of low top ends for you young Whipper Loopers but those are my top ends. :embarrased:

The Pro Foil has seen a lot and is due to explode. I need to start thinking about a replacement.

Thing about a 3m depower to me is that it will be useless until I have survival type needs. But, do I really want to HAVE to be hooked in under those conditions ? If so, wouldn't I get better performance out of a 4m Peak? :puzzled:

ssayre - 16-10-2015 at 06:22 AM

25 gusting 40 I use short line and 2.5 star and buggy on my gravel lot unhooked. Twice a year maybe

ssayre - 16-10-2015 at 06:23 AM

This rush might be good for those conditions?

abkayak - 16-10-2015 at 06:25 AM

Blade...i know you dont believe most of the BS we talk on here....most of us are home drinking when it's in the 30's
including the youngsters w/ the huge yabbos....i fly a 2.9 reactor (also due to explode)when its scary out...and will honestly say i have seen a bunch of days this yr that ive turned around or put in 20 min and got the hell off the beach... i bet this little dp would deal w/ these conditions real nice and for a great price...never thought i could afford a new kite but heres one i can

A good 2 beer buzz does well to shake off that last little bit o inhibition and prevent over thinking things. Luckily for me it's rare I have those conditions or it might get me in trouble. Still survival mode which isn't fun.

Sean, ^ here is where you tell abkayak he needs a 2.5m Star again ;) :P

Feyd - 16-10-2015 at 08:31 AM

Blade a reminder. 4m Peak = roughly 6m+ depower foil.

I'd take a 6m Access over the Peak in 30+ if I want to fly without feeling on edge. The 4m Peak on the other hand makes those conditions pretty sporty.

Since the conversation has upped the budget. The Viron is a great depower trainer and a lot of kite for the $$$

I was trying to pick up the 4m Viron that surfaced in the classifieds a few months ago. Loved what this small depower had to offer. Couldn't get the funds together at the time though.

I also agree in the "survival kiting" in those winds. The more safety the better. Even if it is classed as a trainer/beginner DP.
Being so small with a good safety is a good option in blister winds. IMHO.

Feyd - 16-10-2015 at 06:53 PM

I remember there was a Viron in the used section. Went for nearly what we sell them new for and was a Viron 1. The new one is made of Silver arrow material and comes with the same bar as the Peak. Depowers nearly as well as the peak. Initially I thought it was a little ridiculous to have kites in the 2m range made of UL material but it pays off even on the small wings. Nice little kites, easy to fly and fun on high wind days though officially they aren't necessarily intended for that duty. Priced higher than other trainers but really you get what you pay for.
