Hi, We are currently working on a community based website project and have a few questions for kitesurfers.
What words would you use to describe kitesurfing?
What would you like to see on a community based website?
Would you like the website to be more informative, or more imagery?
What could the website do to help you with your day-to-day kitesurfing?

WELCOME!
sailing.
it would contain accurate, knowledgeable real time sailing information about the WIND for (ie velocity, direction , gusts..etc)specific locations.
the wind thats it. nothing else, NO ADs! of any kind, or commercial content.
atmospheric changes that influence the wind, seasonal thermal gradients. So temperature/water temperature (surface) , lightening data, precipitation.
NO IMAGES JUST DATA!
NOTHING TO DO WITH $, OR VACATIONS OR "STUFF". commercial-free!
DATA!
a forum would be great ! for discussions about safety(active and passive), responsible and respectful behavior thats conducive to effective, fun,
community integration and most importantly be commercial free.
if this http://www.powerkiteforum.com/ site had a data widget it would be ideal, but seems perfect despite that lacking element ...but as a daily sailor
i just walk outside and take a look, as most day to day kiters do, and TOTALLY try to avoid swimming in the rest of this virtual cesspool, which it
sounds like you desire to expand.

New to this forum but find it as an awesome tool for kiters and I'm glad it doesn't only talk about traction kiting!
Real time wind info would be nice though!

Agreeing with Pheerider.
Would like to add @ question 2..
Humidity.
And all data of all locations accessible.
Currently I go to windfinder.com and after that to some local sites. Would be great to see all in one place.
Hugh project.

I feel we have enough forums as it is, and we don't need to spread the community around more. And no need for more imagery, the internet is cluttered
enough with images as it is now! Get off my lawn (it's for kiting on)!
Aggregating ALL weather data is a monstrous project requiring handling massive amounts of data. And forecasting is hard!
For those looking for more wind data and other weather details, don't forget about the ham weather stations visible on aprs.fi and similar ham sites.
They are the little blue WX dots that show up on the map. Lots of stations both in town and out in the sticks with realtime data on
windspeed/direction/humidity/temp/rainfall etc. along with historical records that you can study for how the wind blows at different times of day etc.
I operate a weather station that posts to the APRS network and we could always use more. Consider getting together with other riders and a ham to
build an APRS station at your favorite spot. Total cost can be <$500 for a full-featured weather station with no internet connection or AC power
required.
