Liberty State Park

jrhook - 17-10-2015 at 02:08 PM

I've seen on here a post where buggies are a problem for the park cops but I'm taking a landboard down there tomorrow. Hoping for the best. Any takers on joining me? Cheeze? Abkayak? Coming from Kingston so give me a shout...

cheezycheese - 17-10-2015 at 03:15 PM

Was thinking about you earlier. If you were doing something local I'd be game to join you.

jrhook - 18-10-2015 at 05:19 AM

phone text sent... lets kite!

abkayak - 18-10-2015 at 06:13 AM

Too far
Have fun

You guys might want to try one of my spots in Orange County. It's basically the side of a hill (not much "flat" here as you know), but has enough flat-ish spots to be pretty good, I think. It's also enormous (for our area, anyway) and deserted aside from the occasional dog walker. Due to the elevation, the wind hits it pretty good, as well. I MTB there regularly when time permits.

Where is it..? How tall is the grass..?

jrhook - 19-10-2015 at 11:27 AM

yeh, where? what direction wind is best?

Psychotronic - 20-10-2015 at 01:48 PM

41.24546, -74.33774

Grass gets tall in the summer, but gets hayed in August. Haven't been there in a few weeks, but the grass stays low until spring. It's rougher than a soccer field, but absolutely do-able, IMO.

I know this place ..... I snowkited there last winter few times .....

Psychotronic - 21-10-2015 at 06:10 AM

Really? What did you think of it? I want to get into snowkiting but don't have the equipment yet. I thought that would be a great place to do that.

Kober - 21-10-2015 at 08:11 PM

Wind was gusty , but all together ridable . You need a lot of snow to cover that grass , and extra power in a kite to go uphill ......

Is it enough space for a buggy.. ?

jrhook - 22-10-2015 at 09:26 AM

Kober, I agree...the grass at Berger Hill takes a lot of snow before its rideable ... A gusty North last year produced some precarious fun though...

Kober - 6-11-2015 at 06:08 PM

jrhook - 6-11-2015 at 08:53 PM

board yes...gopro yes...crowd on saturday, unsure...

cheezycheese - 8-11-2015 at 07:19 AM

Well... out with it... how was your session.. ?

ssayre - 8-11-2015 at 08:14 AM

weird they don't allow buggies but allow board. Why would that be?? At least they don't ban kites altogether.

jrhook - 8-11-2015 at 08:15 AM

Mark, this place has some serious promise for landboarding and Snowkiting! I'll get some pics or vid up to show ya when I get home. With my daughter in Secaucus, I'll be here often:)
As for yesterday, wind was about 12-14 but WNW isn't best...it'll be off the water with anything S or SE and much cleaner. Plenty of open space but the Tough Mudder Adventure Race took over the entire place both Saturday and today. Bummer, but if you can make a Monday afternoon and sleep over in Secaucus for some Tuesday action you'd be welcome to come along. Very easy to get to as its right off the NJTP at 14B.

We could get some great rides on a board here for sure! So sick of the rude gusty punch me in the face wind I've been dealing with on Esopus Ave~~~

just waiting for the right conditions, day off, opportunity, cosmic alignment and blessing from Notus...god of the south wind

cheezycheese - 10-11-2015 at 06:30 AM

Thanks for the info Jim. Maybe this winter I'll be able to try out my snow blades.

windrider1 - 10-11-2015 at 05:23 PM

So what happened to the video. it looks like a good area to snowkite.

jrhook - 11-11-2015 at 07:10 AM

No vid... Tough Mudder race took over the entire place so kiting was out. I'll be back soon to give it a whirl.

windrider1 - 11-11-2015 at 08:14 AM

ok gotcha, yea I would love to see a video of the area. so are u the only landboarder around in that area, may be I will come out and do a session if the weather still stays relatively mild.
